“Come on, Wes, we better get over there before that bloody thing tears the kitchens apart and the university makes us redundant1?!”

Together, the two of them dash off.

Honestly, I’m a bit miffed that the girls’ and my performance didn’t get a little more attention.

I lock eyes with Jack, and his gazeburnsinto mine.

“That was some diversion,” he growls.

I blow him a kiss—his pants can’t hide the real estate that he’s pack in there from our ‘show’.

“Best diversion yet!” I crow.

“And I’ve got the best solution!” Sian cries triumphantly, looking at her phone. “Quick—everyone into the saloon!”

“What saloon?”

“The car!” she clarifies as the others all scramble in.

I wait to squeeze in after the girls when a sound catches my attention. Staring into the darkness underneath a nearby car, I swear eyes stare back at me.

Elise pulls my hand to get in. I look at her and back again—but the sun dances behind a cloud, and I realize it was just a shadow. Moving quickly, I hop into the cramped vehicle.

“Ugh, this thinghasturned into a freaking clown car again.”

“Clown car?” Theo wonders.

“Yeah—ya know, those small-ass cars in the circus that they cram full of seventy clowns—that’s what this is like.”

Jude sits behind the wheel, ready to go.

“If it gets us out of here, who cares if we’re squished?” he shrugs. “Sian—what’s this ace solution?”

“My cousin texted me—”

“The shady one?” Jack asks.

“Yep—the very one—he can sneak us onto a ship going south.”

“So, we didn’t need my passport after all?” I whine.

“It doesn’t hurt to have it, love” Arthur argues.

“Plus, we got off together,” Elise adds.

“Hold the phone—who got off?!” I shout.

“Um, the three of us,” Sian says, pointing at herself, Elise, and me.

I pout.

Making out with them was magical as fuck, but I sure as shit didn’t ‘gasm!

“What’s wrong?” Theo murmurs, sensing my inner angst.

“Nothing,” I mumble.

“Liar,” Jack prods, and I stick my tongue out at him.
