“That’s a good point.”

“I thought so.”

“I just can’t believe your luck.”

“Tell me about it.”

“I mean, your dates are now two for two as far as worst dates ever go.”

“Don’t I know it.”

“It’s okay,” she nods emphatically. “You can handle this.”

“Is it though? Okay, I mean? Because I’m not so sure. Maybe this is a sign I should just stop.”

“No, you shouldn’t and yes it’s going to be okay. Do you know why?”

“Please enlighten me.”

“Because, you’ve gotten the bad ones out of the way now. You’re good to go from here on out. Certainly. Yes, it must get better now,” she says clearly also trying to convince herself.

But I just realized what she did!

“Oh god, you just jinxed me!”

“What? How?”

“You shouldneversay something like that! Never! It’s like when the person says, ‘everything’s going to be okay’ in a horror movie while the killer’s secretly staring at them through the window.”

“Okay, that’s a bit dramatic.”

“Is it though? I’ve gone on a date with a guy that plays with children’s toys and a clown, Kimberly!”

She laughs out loud and I consider strangling her for half a second.

I sigh instead, “You’ve cursed me.”

“I did not, it’s all going to be fine. Besides, no way anything can top these.”

“Stop it!” I smack her arm and she laughs. “Don’t you care about me at all? You’re making the dating gods think you’re throwing down a challenge!”

“The dating gods?” she laughs at me as we make our way back to the dental practice. Our lunch is almost over and we need to prepare for our afternoon patients.

“There is one thing that’s interesting though…” I begin and stop.

She turns to me, “What’s that?”

“Remember when I told you that there’s a bartender there that’s super hot?”

Her brows raise in complete interest, “I remember.”

“I think maybe…” I stop, hesitating.

“Maybe what?”

“I think maybe there’s something there.”

“What does that mean?”
