“I mean, what do I really know about this guy?”
“You know that you’re attracted to him.”
“Yeah, that’s true. He makes me-“ I pause, resigned to the truth, feeling stupid.
“What?” She asks as she releases the last section of my hair to curl.
“He makes me feel… tingly all over,” I say and feel ridiculous again. “And when I’m at the bar, I feel like I’m constantly aware of his presence. I can’t explain it.”
“It’s called chemistry,” she says with a wide smile.
“Uh maybe,” I half-heartedly agree. “I have no idea what to wear,” I admit when she finishes my hair and I turn side to side admiring how pretty the waves look.
“Well, that’s what I’m here for,” Kimberly says as she unplugs the hot hair tool, “let’s go to your closet stat.”
Looking at the time, I realize I need to leave soon.
“Time went by fast,” I say as my stomach does yet a deeper drop, my nerves pulsating through me. “I hung a few options right in the from there,” I tell her gesturing to the closet.
While she takes a look at what I’ve chosen, I walk to my vanity, remove my robe, and reach for the bottle of my favorite lotion. I love how its smell reminds me of a tropical vacation.
I’m slathering it on my legs, smoothing it over my ankles and heels when I hear a high-pitched whistle and I turn around looking at Kimberly curiously.
“What?”
“Is that a new lingerie set? Your bra and panties are fancy!”
“No, it’s not new. I just have nice stuff, thank you very much.”
“Wearing the good stuff for your date, huh? Are you expecting sexy times?”
“No, not at all. It’s a first date.”
“Looks to me like you chose the underwear in case they were seen.”
“I did not,” I deny honestly. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”
“Well, it’s kind of hard when you look like that, hot lady!”
“Shut up,” I laugh and finish with the lotion as Kimberly turns to me with a big smile.
“This. This is it.”
She’s holding a short, black, and what I know is a tight dress. And I l know that I look amazing in it.
“Yeah?” I ask.
“Definitely, and with these shoes,” she takes out my glittery black stilettos.
“Well, there’s one thing I know for sure,” I tell her as I unzip the back of the dress and begin pulling it up my hips. “This date won’t be a disaster like all the rest. Just getting to look at that man, will make it a win.”
We both giggle and nod.
* * *
“Excuse me,” I ask the gentleman seated next to me when I see he’s sporting a watch. “Can you tell me the time?”
He smiles and nods, shares the time, and I smile back my thanks.
