“Was?” he asks but I don’t answer.
“It’s true, our dates were less than perfect, yes. You got hurt,” he brushes his fingers over where my stitches were, already healed, leaving a small scar. “Then you had that situation at the park,” he smirks and I outright laugh because that’s one way to put it. “But while they each had their not-so-great moments, I didn’t care, because to me each one was a perfect date, because they were with you.”
“That’s nice and all,” I say and Justin frowns, but I refuse to show that I’m melting on the inside. “But I heard what you said to Sam,” I say pulling my face out of his hands when the memories flood me again.
He won’t let me move away and shakes his head, “Sam and I used to date,” he says.
“You wereengaged,” I say and he looks surprised.I shrug, “Got my hair done.”
“Which looks amazing by the way, but you always look amazing.”
I only glare at him.
“Sam and I have history, yes, but that’s where it will forever stay – history. She made her choice when she decided to cheat on me, and I have no intention of being anything but her friend. Ever.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about your history with her?”
“I didn’t mean to keep it from you, I just didn’t think about it. I don’t think about it – or her – at all.”
“Why do you let her work here? And it still doesn’t explain what I heard you say.”
“She works here because she lost her job and came begging for one.I guess I felt sorry for her, though she doesn’t deserve it, and I’m a nice guy, and she’s a damn good server,” he shrugs. “But that’s all it is. And as far as what you think you heard me saying to her…”
I cut him off, “You told her we were fake dating.”
“No, I told her you may have thought we started out fake dating, but that it was never that for me, and has evolved into much more.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh,” he says. “It upset her, and as she left, she saw you standing there. We got in an even bigger fight after I tried to go after you, I told her she can find another job.All I care about, is you.”
My eyes sting, “I’m so sorry I didn’t hear you out these past couple of weeks.”
“It’s been pure hell.Wanting to talk to you and you shutting me out.”
“I’m sorry. I heard ‘fake dating’ and assumed I knew the rest.”
“I even tried to get to you through Kimberly, and that girl is on another level.”
I laugh, “Yeah, she’s great. And crazy.”
“She cares about you a lot.” He moves to me, takes me in his arms.
“I’m sorry,” I tell him again.
“It’s okay, you can make it up to me.”
“Yeah?” I ask, feeling that fire in my veins once more at his touch.
“You sure can. We are going to go on a date right now. And again tomorrow. And again after that. Basically, you’re going to spend all of your time with me.”
“Oh, am I?”
“Yep.”
“I kind of like the sound of that,” I tell him.
“Kind of?” he smiles, then puts his lips on mine. His kiss is full of fire and passion. The pent-up feelings he’s had the last couple weeks are clear in the way he kisses me. As if I’m the very air he needs to breathe.
