Ricky turns me around and lifts my chin. “Good morning, beautiful.”
My focus is on his brown orbs; like the calming of a storm, the swirling has subsided. He has small lines next to his eyes, and his smile is bright. “Good morning.”
His lips take mine. Strong and reassuring, his kiss is possessive and tender. “I’m usually more self-controlled.”
“I’m not complaining.” I peer over his shoulder. “What did you cook?”
“There are scrambled eggs in the microwave and toast. I wasn’t sure how you liked your eggs.”
A smile comes to my lips. “One of those things a boyfriend should probably know.”
He tilts his head.
“Over medium,” I say. “Runny yolk, but not the white.”
“I’m over easy.”
As we sit together at the breakfast bar and eat our breakfast, Ricky asks me about my plans for the weekend.
“I told Devan I’d head down to Riverbend. Jill will be there for Todd’s niece’s birthday. She wants to have a tell-all.” I give Ricky the side-eye. “It seems Devan found out I wasn’t completely honest with her seven years ago.”
“Shit. That’s on me.”
Of course, I knew that.
Chapter 17
Ricky
“Is their knowing one of those instances I’m supposed to apologize for or not? I’m trying to keep up.”
“Not,” Marilyn says. “In a way, I’m glad the secret is out.”
“What about last night?”
“And this morning,” she says with a sexy grin.
I reach back and tug the hair tie from her long brown locks, watching as it cascades down her back and over her shoulders. “We could go for twice this morning.”
She gathers her hair and twists it before flipping it over her shoulder. “I promised Devan I’d take off in the morning.”
“Funny story.”
Marilyn’s blue eyes open wide. “What’s funny?”
“Remember the backpack Kyla handed me last night? I was planning a trip to Riverbend. Justin asked me to come down to talk about his plans for the farms…I guess it’s only one farm now—his.”
“And Devan’s.”
I nod.
It’s just weird after my whole life of my family owning our land that it is now part of the Sheers’s farm. Knowing that my sister is still there makes it easier to take. An idea comes to life. “Do you want to ride down together?”
Marilyn coughs, choking on her coffee. “Together? Don’t you think everyone will notice?”
“Yeah, but when we share a room at Devan’s house, they’ll probably notice that too.”
Her head is shaking. “Whoa. I think you’re moving a little fast.”
