Seneca shook his head. “Master Owens named me. It’s just a name.”

She kept her eyes on her task as she talked. “Seneca was an ancient Earth philosopher and poet. I remember liking some of his work, but I don’t have anything memorized. We can read more about him, later. Alfred has a great library of Old Earth classics, history and literature.” With Alfred’s help they’d gone from nursery rhymes to fairytales—the original versions. Neither of them had been in the mood for anything too perfect.

“Later,” he agreed. “I like the sound of that.” His voice was soft and husky.

Feeona sighed. He wanted her to accept that he and Jupiter would be sticking with her. She shouldn’t mislead him. She didn’t want him to feel like she expected that. She didn’t. And she wanted him to leave her without bad feelings between them. If she had her way, Jupiter would finally be the mate to Sen that he always should have been.

“It’ll take a few days for me to get you some place safer, after we take Jupiter from Morgan. We’ll have time then.”

Sen squeezed her shoulder. “Will you check for news of Mercury and our other brothers before we go onto Morgan’s ship?”

As of the last time they’d checked, they still hadn’t found any news of them. “If we have time. There won’t be anything we can do about it until after, anyway.”

She turned off the sprayer, then removed the paint canister. After putting it back into its slot, she started cleaning the nozzle. “You can put your arm down now. It dries pretty quickly but try not to rub up against anything for a few minutes.”

He lifted his hand and wove his fingers into her hair. The defined muscles of his bare arm and shoulder flexed. He bent and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Everything will work out, you’ll see.”

At least he no longer doubted her ability to get Jupiter back from Morgan.Shewasn’t even convinced the A plan would work. Sen walked over to the clothes rack and grabbed the barely-there costume they’d chosen for him.

He didn’t know her fall back plan. She hated that she was still keeping secrets. Sen was practical. Could she tell him? “Hey, Sen.”

He looked up from fastening the modified briefs carefully around his hips. “Yeah?”

She plucked the next paint from the case, then shifted it out of the way. She patted the spot on the bed. “I need you sitting for the next part.”

“Right.” The wolf moved with his muscles as he walked. Sexy as hell.

He sat down and pushed her hair behind her ear. “What worries you, love?”

Love. Such a beautiful word. It didn’t matter that he didn’t mean it the way her heart heard it. He did care for her. Maybe he even loved her a little. Their attraction and affection for one another had turned into a bone deep bond that went beyond friendship.

She gave him a smile. “After I put the rest of this paint on, you might just be lethal.”

He didn’t give her an answering smile. “You can tell me, Fee.”

She sighed. “After the paint.”

“That bad?”

She nodded. She adjusted the sprayer settings and put a finger under his chin. “Close your eyes and keep them closed until I tell you to open them.”

He lowered his long pale lashes and relaxed his face. She moved the sprayer carefully across his eyes. A lighter setting across his cheekbones.

She put down the sprayer and dipped a finger into a pot of lip color. “Keep them closed. I’m going to touch your lips,” she warned.

He didn’t move.

She stroked the vivid color over the sensual curves. It hadn’t been easy to find a color that looked good with his skin and eyes, but she’d gotten it right. She could tell now. Jupiter was going to see Seneca in a whole new light.

The color across his eyelids and lashes would be dry, but it was easier to say it without him looking at her. “If something goes wrong—”

“We’ll adapt,” he interrupted. “We’ll make it work.”

She huffed out a breath. God, she adored him. “I have the coordinates for the Resistance’s secret base.”

His eyes popped open. His gaze traced her features and his head tilted. “How?”

She licked her dry lips. “I hacked the resistance ship. I stored the information in my neural unit.”
