Once again, Marissa sought out the other bridesmaids for support.

Other than cautious reassuring glances, she got nothing. They weren’t talking. It was on Marissa to explain.

“It’s comp—”

Carolyn rolled her eyes.“Everyone iscomplicated. You have got to get out of your head and start living.Unless he’s refusing to attend the wedding, which I doubt he is, you want him there.I can see it in your eyes.I would love for him to be there, and I’m the bride. That should mean something.”She squeezed Marissa’s hands.“It will work out.I promise.Just breathe and let go.Allow life to happen.”

Beau

Carolynwasabeautifulwoman normally.Beau could acknowledge that. She wasn’t his type, but to see her as a bride was stunning. The dress was filled with crystals and embellishments. If her personality could be a dress, she’d found it for her wedding.

Standing outside the church, wearing his finest suit and holding an envelope, he watched as the bridesmaids and groomsmen lined up to make an archway for Carolyn and her husband to exit the ornate building and get into the waiting limo.

It didn’t take long for Beau’s gaze to lock in on Marissa. She stole his breath, stopped his heart, and had his dick at full attention. The bright-aqua dress flowed in the breeze, which allowed for a peek at her leg through the slit. The off-the-shoulder sweetheart neckline placed an emphasis on her ample bosom. It made his mouth water.

Her long dark hair swept up in a bundle of curls accented with tiny rhinestones was the perfect hairstyle for Florida heat. The bouquet she held above her head for Carolyn and her new husband to walk through complemented the gown.Marissa didn’t upstage the bride, but she sure as shit had Beau’s attention. He’d never been more captivated than he was by her.

But he had to stick with the plan.He had to remain out of sight for now. Then why had he attended the ceremony?Because it was the right thing to do.Who went to a reception without watching the nuptials? Not him, that was for damn sure.

Straightening his tie, he ducked into the group of people filing out of the church toward the parking lot.Knowing Carolyn, the cocktail hour would be amazing.

While Beau hadn’t ever been married himself, he’d attended a few and planned one for all of a month.Which meant Marissa didn’t have time for the big conversation they needed to have. She was busy bridesmaiding for Carolyn. It was best he stay hidden.

Marissa

What Marissa wouldn’t give for a fan.Or to be inside with the air-conditioning.The amount of Lycra she had sucking her in, pushing her up, and giving her the perfect hourglass shape was ridiculous. It was also hot as fucking hell. She was dying. The odds of succumbing to heatstroke increased with each passing minute.

When would these wedding photos be done?

“Hey,” Joyce whispered as she approached.“Did you text Beau?”

Rubbing the sweat from her brow, Marissa sighed.“No.”

“Why not?”Tina asked, appearing from nowhere.

This wasn’t the time or the place. They were at a wedding. The attention was supposed to be on Carolyn.Of all the days of the year for Marissa’s situationship with Beau to not be the hot topic, it was the one when Carolyn married the goofball, taking pictures with his family right now.

“I didn’t know what to say,” she replied, trying to end the conversation.

“I would’ve opened with asking if he was still planning on coming to the wedding,” Tina offered.

“Did you see him?”Joyce asked.

Tina shrugged.“Honestly?Wasn’t looking.”

He wasn’t there.Marissa couldn’t help but search for him.Her heart still clung to the hope that he was a good guy, but her brain chastised her.Of course he hadn’t shown up.Why would he?She’d blown him off.Besides, he was most likely busy finding an apartment or applying for jobs or something.

Which would be the responsible thing to do.He had real-life problems.Beau didn’t have the time to start up with someone who was leaving the state the following evening.

“Marissa?”Joyce broke into her thoughts.

“Hmm?”She shifted her focus from internal to her fellow bridesmaid.

“Was he here?”

Frowning, she glanced away and lifted a shoulder.“I don’t think so.”
