“I bet it’s an awesome time. I’ve never been to Europe, but I want to. There’re so many places to see and explore.”
“I agree.”
“But I’m only getting older. I don’t know how much longer I can wait around to start a family. Maybe I should just travel the world instead.”
My body froze as my mind went haywire. She wants to start a family?
It was something I wanted too. Traveling could wait. “But maybe you already met the guy who’d become your husband.”
Taelyn’s head snapped my way, and she searched my eyes. “Maybe I have.” Her cheeks flushed, and she broke our gaze, staring at her hands fidgeting in her lap.
“I really like you, Tae.”
“I really like you, too.”
“Can we explore whatever this is? Make a commitment to each other?”
Taelyn stroked my beard with her hand before kissing me softly on the lips. “Yes.”
EPILOGUE
Zale
One year later
For our first date,I brought her to a fancy restaurant outside of town. On the way home, I parked at a scenic overlook on the mountain, the sky dark and glittering with stars. While I desperately wanted to kiss her, I remained respectful and gave her space. I slid my arm over her shoulders and held her while we star gazed and listened to soft classical music.
One date turned into two, then three, only a day or two between them. It was all I could stand, my mind constantly on her, wanting to be near her every second. Tonight, I wanted her in my bed as long as she was on the same page. I didn’t even care if we had sex. All I cared about was sleeping with her in my arms and waking up to her gorgeous face.
Considering our first two dates ended with hot and heavy make out sessions, I was confident she wanted the same things as me.
“I don’t want our night to end, Tae.”
“Me either.” She said as she reached across the middle console of my truck and wrapped her small hand around my large one.
“Would you like to come inside my place for a drink? Or I can make a fire, and we can sit out on the back patio?”
“I’d like that.”
“Perfect.” I said as I turned onto our street and pulled into my driveway. Taelyn had only been inside my cabin once before, but I had yet to show her my patio area I built myself. It was something I was super proud of and enjoyed many days and nights back there.
If only my parents were here to see it, but they moved five years ago, my dad landing a job in London.
After getting her inside and flicking on the lights, I led her out back. I turned on the string lights and showed her around the patio I made by hand, the fire pit I built, and the grill I finally treated myself to one Christmas.
“You did the stonework yourself?”
“I did. A degree in carpentry certainly pays off.”
“And the fire pit?”
“Yep.” I rocked on my heels as pride filled my chest. I cared about what she thought, cared about her opinions, thoughts, and ideas. I was falling for the older, curvy woman, yet I didn’t care. I wanted it.
I wanted her.
I walked up behind her and placed my hands on her hips, pulling her flush against me, my front to her back. Taelyn fit perfectly, our bodies molding together in one seamless piece.
Brushing her hair to the side and exposing her neck, I kissed her tender skin softly, goosebumps scattering across her skin. The reaction almost brought me to my knees, ready to bare my soul and hand her my heart.
