“Oh hell yes.” Marcus reached for it.
Nex sent Marcus a glare, but Marcus ignored it, opening the container. Kat smiled at Nex in victory and turned for the kitchen.
“We’re planning to be up late,” Nex called.
“That’s okay.” Kat lifted her shoulders in a shrug. “I’ve got earplugs. Unless you want to deal with the neighbors, I suggest you turn the volume down.” Kat opened a kitchen cupboard and hummed to herself.
Lucian and Marcus looked at Nex in amusement, and he scowled.
Nex snatched another beer. “Shut up.”
“She’s good,” Marcus said with a mouthful of cookies.
Nex smacked a cookie out of his hand, and they growled at each other.
“Don’t be rude to our guests.” Kat’s scolding made Lucian and Marcus snort.
Nex flipped them off before going into the kitchen, where Kat was making tea. “I can’t promise nothing will be broken by tomorrow.” He crossed his arms and leaned against the counter. “We party hard. We might invite girls.”
“Use protection and stay out of my parents’ room. And you can’t break anything. It was part of the agreement when I called off the exorcists.”
“Maybe I won’t keep my word.”
Frowning, Kat turned to him. “That’s not nice, Nex. Why don’t you put your energy into finding a way home that doesn’t involve murder?”
Nex sneered. “Because that’s worked out oh so well for you the last three weeks.”
“I could be making progress. We don’t know.” Kat carried her tea to the kitchen table. “Did you guys eat dinner?”
Marcus perked up. “Dinner?”
Ignoring Nex’s glare, Kat addressed his friends. “Yeah, you guys want some? I’ll cook.”
“What?” Nex pouted. “You never cook for me.”
“That’s because you’re rude.” Kat sipped her tea. “They’ve been nice.”
Marcus and Lucian snorted again, causing Nex to growl. “You were supposed to be here to help me.”
“Oh, right.” Marcus pulled a piece of paper from his jacket. “I made a list of people and their sins so awful you’ll be able to kill without feeling guilty.”
Kat set the tea down and took the paper. She skimmed it, crumpled it, and dropped it in the garbage. “It’s not happening. If you don’t bring it up again, I’ll make dessert.”
Marcus lifted his beer in cheers. “Done.”
Nex threw his arms up. “Really?”
“You were right.” Marcus lounged back, stretching his legs. “She’s a tough one to crack.”
“Aw, did you talk me up to your friends?” Kat cooed, pinching Nex’s cheek. “That’s sweet. I’ll make enough for you, too.”
Lucian bit back the smile, but Marcus didn’t bother hiding his. Nex fumed while Kat started dinner. She never looked back, which annoyed him further.
Opening another beer, Nex plopped on the couch. “She’s impossible.”
“She’s also pretty cute,” Marcus said.
“Don’t even think about it. Besides, she’s dating someone.”
