He kissed her, and she tried to shut out Nex’s comments. He’s trying to get to me.She kissed Jason and held her breath when he slipped a hand up her shirt onto her bare back, his other hand shifting higher on her leg.
He broke away and kissed down her neck, then paused. “Uh, do you live with someone?” He nodded behind her.
Several people exited the house, laughing and stumbling.
She held in the groan. “I have a roommate, but it’s temporary.”
“A roommate who likes to party, it looks like.”
Oh no.He was interested, but she couldn’t bring Jason into whatever crazy party Nex had. There were probably demons in there, and who knew how drunk they were? Marcus let his demon side out more after drinking—disappearing and reappearing places, playing with flames he created out of thin air. Jason couldn’t know there was a demon living in her house who brought over demon friends to drive her crazy. Not only that, but Nex’s response to having Jason in the house wasn’t something she wanted to see.
“Yeah, I usually go in my room and stay out of it.” Kat pulled away.Maybe if I leave fast, he won’t ask about it.“I’ll talk to you later.”
She moved to leave, but Jason pulled her in for another kiss. “Don’t you want to spend more time with me?” he asked against her lips, sliding his hand to her butt.
Kat’s eyes closed, and she set her hands on his shoulders to push him back. “I do. So, we should see that movie soon. How about Sunday after I get off?”
“Yeah, Sunday’s great. I’ll pick you up from the bookstore. But what about the part—”
Not knowing what else to do, Kat leaned forward and kissed him. He groaned and grabbed her waist, drawing her closer. Sounds from the party gave Kat pause, concerned about someone coming out to find them. She pushed him back before getting out of the car. “Sunday it is. I’ll text you later!” She shut the door and rushed away.
Kat smiled at the demons outside and entered the house. Her eyes widened at the number of people. People who could use a hotel room.
“Kat.” Marcus slung an arm over her shoulder and leaned on her so much she faltered. “We’re playing a drinking game. Play with us.”
“Oh, I don’t know.” Kat stepped closer to Marcus as a much bigger demon, too big to be human, walked by.
“It’ll be fun.” Marcus nudged her toward the kitchen table.
Kat wasn’t great at saying no to people, but when she saw who was at the table, she stopped. One girl sat in Nex’s lap, another beside him, whispering in his ear. Kat couldn’t be jealous. Sheshouldn’tbe jealous. She was with Jason.
Didn’t mean she wanted to watch.
Kat looked up at Marcus. “I think I need a bit to drink to catch up.”
“That’s more like it!” Marcus grinned, setting his hand on her back as they walked to the kitchen.
Nex’s voice boomed in Marcus’s head so loud it hurt.Hands off.
Relax, jealous freak. Would you rather her walk through this party alone?Marcus asked.
No response. Marcus clicked his tongue and grabbed whiskey but paused when Kat drank directly from a large bottle of tequila.
Marcus arched an eyebrow. “Bad date?”
“My date was fine.” Kat’s gaze flicked to Nex, who was still with those two girls, whispering things to them and leaving Kat frustrated with herself for not liking it. She took another swig and winced.
“Slow down, Kitty Kat.” Marcus took the bottle, following her gaze to Nex and back. “You good?”
Kat swiped the bottle and took another big drink before walking away. “I’m good.”
“Fucking children, I swear.” Marcus shook his head at both of them and approached Nex. “If your plan is to make her jealous, it’s working. If it’s not, I suggest you cut it out,” he sat across from Nex, “because you’re upsetting her.”
“I don’t care if she’s jealous.” Nex ran his fingers down the arm of the demon sitting in his lap. “I’m trying to get her sick of me, so she’ll send me home.”
“Right. Keep it up then because you’re successfully pissing her off.”
“Good.” Nex focused on the girls next to him. The distractions didn’t stop him wishing someone else sat on his lap. Participating in the card game in front of him, he focused on not looking for Kat.
