“Katherine.” Nex lifted her the second they were inside, making her squeal. He kicked the door shut and carried her to the bed, dropping her on it and picking up her foot to remove her boot. “You make an effort to ask me about things you don’t care for. Answer my question, so I can pretend I’m good enough for you by listening to your answer without giving a sarcastic comment.”
“You’re good enough for me.” Kat sat up, setting her hands on his face. “Do you think you’re not?”
“What kind of question is that?” Nex removed her other boot and sat on the edge of the bed, facing away from her. “I’m a demon, kitten. I’m clearly not good enough for you. I can’t even walk into a fucking building with you. I can’t go to a place that’s important to you.”
Important was an understatement when describing the place her closest friends were. A place she associated with her parents. Where they were buried. A place she felt safe and loved. A place dear to her.
A place Nex would never be able to step foot in.
“It doesn’t bother me that you can’t come with me. That doesn’t matter. You’re not just a demon.” Kat crawled to the edge of the bed and hugged him from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder. “You’re so many things. And you’re more than good enough for me. You . . .” She licked her lips, her face heating. “You make me feel whole. I haven’t felt that way since I lost my parents. I felt empty, but I don’t with you. You fill up voids I thought would always stay empty.”
Kat’s words swelled Nex’s heart. He turned to face her, questioning how someone so perfect could want him. He wanted to tell her how much she meant to him but couldn’t. The way he felt for her wasn’t something he’d experienced before. His own personal angel.
There was one way to convey his feelings.
“I can fill you in other ways.” He smirked and slid her coat off. “I can fill you over and over.”
Kat covered her eyes and red cheeks.
“Still shy with me, kitten?” Nex stroked her cheek. “Even though I’ve fucked you in practically every room of this house, you’re still going to be shy?”
Kat peeked at him over her fingers. “It’s not that.”
“What then?”
“I . . .” Kat swallowed and dropped her hands, wringing them together. Nex frowned. She was innocent and shy, but this was something else. Kat crawled off the bed and stood in front of him.
He pulled her toward him. “Is something wrong?”
“No.” Kat blew out a puff of air and fiddled with the collar of his shirt. “I want to do something. For you. But I-I don’t know how.”
“Spit it out.”
“Every morning you . . .”
Nex smirked. “Have you as an appetizer to breakfast?”
“Um, yes,” Kat whispered.
Although it was true, he meant it as a joke. Even if they didn’t have sex, she never left the bed without him going down on her.
“The thing is, I want to, you know,” she darted her eyes away, her next word almost inaudible, “reciprocate.”
Adjusting himself, Nex cleared his throat. “You want to suck my cock, kitten?”
Kat’s face burned, and she covered it. “Geeze, don’t say it like that.”
Nex chuckled and pulled her hands down so he could see her. “You should know by now I don’t censor things. Look at me.” She brought her eyes to his. “I don’t want you to do this because you think you owe me. That’s bullshit. Don’t ever do something because you think you owe me.”
Kat chewed her lip. “You don’t want me to?”
“Of course I want you to.” Nex’s voice was huskier as he dragged his fingers across her lips. “I’ve thought about your lips around my cock more times than you know, but I won’t have you doing it because you think you owe me.”
“That’s not why I want to.” Kat shifted her weight from one foot to the other. “I want to because—” She set her palms on her face again, hoping the coldness would chill the burn. “I want to make you feel good like you do for me. I just don’t know how.”
Nex’s eyes darkened. “You want to?” Kat nodded. He stood, gripping her waist. “You sure?”
He stared with such intensity her body ached to lean into his touch. All he had to do was look at her like that, and she wanted him.
