I’m not even home for five minutes before I see his name lighting up my phone, and I answer as I let Bennet outside.

“Hello?” I answer.

“You didn’t come by and see me before you went home.”

“I didn’t want to bother you; I’ll see you when you’re off work.”

“Come back.”

I chuckle, shaking my head, though he can’t see me. “Jameson, I’ll see you when you’re not working.”

“I told you, I need to see you in order to get through the night. You’re really going to make me wait and just hope I manage to get through?” he says dramatically.

“I think you’ll be just fine.”

“You really want to risk that? I may just have to make an excuse to come to your house. I just don’t think I’ll be able to get through, Sutton, please.”

I giggle. “You’re something else, you know that?”

“Tell me what else I am then because all I want to be is yours.”

I gasp softly, possessive talk during a heated moment is one thing, but this just flowed, and it has my heart racing in my chest. It has me feeling all sorts of feelings that have been dormant for too long.

“All I want is a goodnight kiss from you,” he pleads.

I find myself unable to say no to him, and that’s something I worry will come back to bite me one of these days, but instead, I agree.

After I let Bennet back inside, I change out of my gross grooming clothes and since the summer evening is warm I pull on a simple T-shirt dress and some tennis shoes. I’m just running over to say goodnight to Jameson; I won’t be gone long and that’s exactly what I tell Bennet as he looks at me oddly when I grab my keys to leave again.

Once I park, I pull my phone out to text Jameson because I’m not about to walk right up to the door. The only reason I did earlier was because it was open and I knew it was him.

Sutton: I’m parked outside.

Jameson: I’ll come out.

I wait until I see him step outside before I get out of my car and can’t help but speed walk over to him. He pulls me into a tight hug the second I’m within arms reach and I melt into him just like I always do the second his arms are around me.

“I want to show you something,” he tells me, pulling back slightly.

“I’m just here to say goodnight; you didn’t tell me you had other plans for us.”

“Do you have a hot date you need to get to?”

“What if I do?” I raise my chin.

“Then I’ll make sure to keep you here so you can’t go because the only one that gets to take you on a date is me.”

“I’m surprisingly okay with that,” I admit.

“Good.” He presses a chaste kiss to my lips. “Come on, I’m going to show you around the station.”

He pulls me inside, and I’m worried about what his coworkers may say if they see us. I’m sure they’ll wonder why I’m here right now. I’m not even sure if I’m technically allowed to be. He doesn’t hesitate as he brings me inside, but instead of going to where everyone else is, he brings me to the oversized garage where the firetruck and ambulance are parked.

“You drive this giant thing?” I ask, looking up at the firetruck. I’ve never been this close to one before and never realized how tall they are.

“Yeah, do you want to sit in it?”

“Are we going to get in trouble for this?”
