“You’re here for a while?” he asks.
Nova looks up at me and smiles.
“Yeah, it’s looking that way.”
“That’s mighty fine to hear. Our boy Wolfe here needs to settle down.”
“Oh yeah? Where was this speech a few months ago?” I ask.
Ted takes another swig of his beer and shrugs.
“I’m just glad I met him,” Nova says.
“You’re a doctor, right?” Ted asks.
“I am. A psychiatrist.”
“Like a therapist?”
“Not the same, but I do conduct therapy sessions too.”
“Good-looking and smart. Good for you, girl.”
Nova laughs, recognizing Ted is mostly harmless.
“Thanks. After I settle in here, I’ll have to figure out my plans.”
“Anything you want, baby,” I say as I wrap my arms around her waist from behind. I rest my head on her shoulder as Ted watches on. He smirks, and I give him a meaningful look.
Nova is out of my league, and I’m going to do anything I can to keep her by my side.
“I’m sure everyone will be wantin’ to meet you. I’ll get out of your hair,” Ted says.
He tilts his beer bottle in our direction and then walks out.
“He seems nice,” Nova whispers.
“Nice. The only one who won’t be trying to fuck you.”
Nova gasps and spins around in my hold. She playfully swats my shoulder.
“Wolfe.”
I hoot at the tone.
“Angel, it’s true. That’s all.”
“Well, you’re the only one I want.”
She wraps her arms around my neck and leans up to place a kiss on my mouth. As she does, I squeeze her ass and hoist her up, having her wrap her legs around my waist.
She smiles widely.
“Kiss me like you mean it,” I murmur.
“I always do.”
She leans down and consumes my mouth. In a way, she’s claiming me as hers right in front of everyone at the party. I can tell eyes are on us, as some of the loud chatter has settled down.
