Before Wolfe, truthfully, I would have never thought to buy lingerie. Not that I was having that much sex, but it always felt like I wouldn’t feel comfortable in it.
Since exploring this relationship with Wolfe, I know I’ll feel sexy in anything I put on because of the way he makes me feel.
I browse the store and pick up the black set that I saw, a few dainty silk pajama sets, and two more lingerie pieces. As I get up to the counter, the woman behind it smirks.
“Will that be all?” she asks.
“Yes,” I hesitantly respond.
The saleswoman glances out at Wolfe talking on the phone, then back at me, and then to the cash register.
“Wolfe Walker,” she says.
“Yes…”
Her eyes rake up my body, trying to unnerve me.
“Will that be cash or credit?”
“Credit.”
“Five hundred and fifty-two dollars and eighty-eight cents.”
“Okay, here you go,” I say, handing over my card.
She looks at it, and her eyebrows shoot up in surprise.
“Is everything okay?” I ask.
“Yes. I just assumed Wolfe would be buying this for you today.”
“And why is that?”
She finally makes eye contact with me.
“Just assumed he’d pay, like always.”
I give her a tight smile and tilt my head.
“Evidently not. Can you ring me up? I need to go home and show my boyfriend how these look on me.”
The woman jerks her head back as her eyes widen in shock.
“Or is that notlike always?”
Yes, that was probably unnecessary, but I knew what she was trying to imply.
She clears her throat and then finishes ringing me up. I can’t show that her dig stings.
I know about Wolfe’s past before me, but at the same time, I highly doubt he was going out of his way to take women on lingerie shopping trips. That part doesn’t add up, and she’s most likely trying to get under my skin.
She hands me back my card and the bag of items.
“Have a good day,” she spits out.
“You too,” I singsong.
That must have been tough for her to stomach.
