Wolfe and I being together. Sam being the one who murdered my parents.

“Crawley hated that Wolfe got out clean as a whistle. I think he’s behind Sam escaping.”

“Sam and who else?” I ask as I hop in the SUV and lock the door. Daisy revs the engine and flees the parking lot, heading back home.

She looks over at me, panicked.

“It doesn’t matter who else. They’ll be helping Sam. You know these people in here are dangerous, Nova. Get somewhere safe.”

“I… I…”

“Somewhere safe, Nova.”

“I will.”

“I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

“For everything. I’m sorry for trying to get you to date me. For my part with Wolfe. For playing along. My part in it all.”

“Now isn’t the time, Ryan.”

“It is. I doubt I’ll talk to you again.”

I hear shouting in the background as Ryan disconnects.

“What’s going on?” Daisy asks.

“I have to get back to Wolfe. There’s been a prisoner escape from where I worked. A prisoner who hates us. I have to get back.”

“I’ll go as fast as I can.”

Wolfe

“I can’t getahold of her,” I shout.

Pacing around my house, I stare at my cell phone, praying for a call from Nova. Everyone around me looks scared for their lives.

“Find that little shit Toby. He knew Sam was going to get out. He fucking knew it and didn’t tell us. That snake.”

“The brothers are out looking for him,” Caleb says.

I dial Nova’s number again, like I have been for the past hour, ever since news broke that prisoners escaped from Roper State.

It’s all that’s been running on the news, and word quickly spread within the inner workings of Montana.

Caleb’s phone rings, and he takes it in the other room.

“Fuck,” I mutter.

Where are you, Nova?

I head into our bedroom and look around for any sign that Nova left me a message or something. Whether it’s to tell me goodbye or where she was going to be all day.

I know this has all been a lot for her, but I just wish if she was leaving me for good that she would have talked to me about it.
