“Actually, yeah. There’s one thing I’ve been thinking about.”

“What’s that?” he asks as he uses the back of his hand to wipe away beads of sweat.

“Who’s watching Toby?”

“What do you mean?”

“We need a tracker on Toby. Someone to tell us that everything is going according to plan.”

“Fuck. We should have thought about that.”

“Yep.”

“I’ll send one of the guys.”

“Sounds good. Pick someone you know we can trust.”

Caleb frowns.

“Look, we hope it’s just Toby, but you never fucking know these days.”

Caleb nods as his eyes widen slightly.

“It’s nothing personal.”

“I know,” he interjects.

“It’s just business.”

“Fuck. This mess will be over with soon. I’ll send Adam.”

I hum at the suggestion.

“He should be good.”

“I’ll get to it then.”

“Thanks, man.”

Caleb starts to walk away and turns back.

“You sticking around?”

“What kind of leader would I be if I didn’t?” I retort.

“The smart kind,” he taunts.

“Yeah, yeah. Get out of here.”

Caleb takes off in a different direction, going to find Adam.

A long night ahead of us, but it will pay off tomorrow.

When I slip backinto the bedroom, the sun is rising, and I know Nova will be waking up soon. It was a long night, but everything was finally taken care of. A shower and a nap will bring me back to life after what I’ve been through.

Walking past the bed, my suspicions are confirmed as I see my angel sleeping peacefully. I can’t believe she’s back home where she belongs. Where I know she’s safe and mine.

I head right to the bathroom, shut the door quietly, and start stripping out of my clothes. They’re grimy, sticking to my body like a second layer of skin I need to peel off.
