“I really didn’t know what you would want from me.”
“I want you. Come with me.”
“But you live out in Saddle Creek.”
“I do.”
“That’s across the state. I mean, practically.”
Wolfe chuckles again as I’m processing what he’s really asking.
“It is.”
I sit still, stunned, as I try to think it all through.
“Baby, come with me. I know it’s a big ask. I know you have your career and life here, but I want you by my side.”
He pauses as he repositions himself.
“It’s a risk you would have to take. I’m not a good man, but I’ll be good every fucking day for you. I’ll always do you right, no matter what. My businesses and the club are separate.”
He gives me a lopsided grin as he stands, taking me upright with him.
“What do you say?”

I knowwhat I’m asking of Nova is a lot. I know that everything about me is a risk she’ll have to take. My life isn’t as buttoned up as the one she’s been living, but I think my girl hasn’t actually been living life at all.
Nova chews on her bottom lip.
“Baby. I know what I’m asking of you. Take the next few days to think about it. I’ll understand if you can’t.”
With those doe eyes, she looks up at me curiously.
“You will?”
“Fuck. I won’t like that answer, but I will. Nova, my life is different. I know this. I know what an ask this is. So yeah. Take your time. But I want you to come try it out.”
“And I can always come back?” she teases.
“You could. If it’s not for you. I’d help you any way I can.”
“Why are you so good to me?”
“Because you’re heaven on earth to me.”
Nova wraps her arms around my neck and kisses me tenderly. There’s so much conviction behind it that I’m not sureif I should see it as a declaration of her coming or that this is the last time we’ll be together.
If it is the last time I get to be with Nova, I’m going to make the most of it.
I lift her up, and she wraps her legs around my waist. Everything between us feels seamless, yet it’s the most difficult relationship I’ve ever been in. I’m assuming for her as well.
Gripping her ass, I pull her into me as I lean back onto the desk.
She yelps from the new position and holds on tighter, making me grin.
