“Don’t try to hide from me. You’re still the most beautiful woman I’ve seen with tears on your face.” He leaned down hard and kissed the tears away.

I let out a huge sigh once he pulled away, my eyes still closed from him transporting me somewhere else. His lips made the bad world fall away so easily.

“That’s better. Now, finish your coffee and I’ll walk you home.”

Chapter 15

Lucy

Amy burst out of her room when we walked in. I had text last night to let her know I was staying with Jason.

“So, you think one text is sufficient details? You’re lucky I didn’t call your dad. I was worried sick.” She turned and pointed her finger at Jason. “And you! You think you can just keep her to yourself now? Geez.” She strolled over to the coffee pot and made herself a cup, so I walked behind her and hugged her tight before I grabbed a mug.

“Okay, not fair. You know touch is my love language, so you win this round, but I expect you people here tonight.” She shot an evil look at Jason, and he gave her a salute.

“And you,” you said as she pointed her index finger at me, “I expect some details via text since I know you won’t tell me while he’s here.”

I saw him grinning from the corner of my eye and felt blood rush to my cheeks. I turned my back to walk to my room but motioned for him to follow me.

“I’ll try really hard to not get arrested today. But I have to go to the club. We had to pull the DJ in to cover since the band won’t be there, so I need to deal with that and work out the schedule until we find a new band.” He came and pressed himself against me until I was up against the wall. “Meet me there later?”

Surely, he didn’t plan to pin me to the wall and leave. I heard nothing he said after I met the wall.

“I,” struggling to form words and breathe simultaneously, “what?” He laughed and leaned to me. His lips pressed to mine, his tongue slowly rolling in my mouth as he grabbed a handful of my hair.

“Good, you’ll think of me all day. I’ll let you get ready. But I’ll see you at the club tonight. Come anytime.”

He turned and left. He. Left. Sweet geezus. What has he done to me?

I showered and got ready in a daze. Luckily, Amy came flying in and plopped on my bed because I was losing track of time.

“So, I was right. Big dick energy, right?” She was relentless.

“Big everything energy.” I paused, still gathering my wits from his tease. “He has messed me up, Amy. But oh my God! Listen to this shit…he owns the club!”

Amy jumped up off the bed like I had shared the secret to life.

“What? So, he’s the one who was arrested? But why? How? This is crazy?” She continued shooting out random questions and I let her finish.

When I finally could get a word in, I kept applying makeup in the bathroom as I explained, “Well, yeah, you know Eric and I had a-thing-whatever, and Jason came out and beat his ass and he ran off. I didn’t know he owned the club, but he called and fired them yesterday morning and then-’”

Before I could finish Amy jumped in, “Wait, so he owns the club, he saved you from the bad guy, and has big dick energy? I knew he was good.” I threw a makeup brush at her.

“The club stuff doesn’t matter. But they called the cops on him in retaliation,” I stepped to my room to tell her the rest, “but it’s my fault. I should have just reported it.” I was shaking my head in shame.

Amy walked to me and grabbed my shoulders. “How is Eric being an asshole your fault? And not for nothing, but if it bothers you that bad, go report him now.”

I blankly stared at her, momentarily entertaining that.

“Wait, no. I can’t now. It’s been two days and I threw out the shirt because he ruined it, then Jason finished it off. Nobody would believe me now.”

We both were quiet for a minute before Amy spoke up, “Listen, I get why you didn’t report it before. But if you don’t now, what if Jason gets jail time or some huge fine? And look at you. You aren’t fooling anyone with your turtleneck.”

“No, but everyone probably assumes I’m covering a hickey.” She made a distasteful face. Hickeys are so high school and even then, not attractive. It’s like a dog pissing on his favorite tree.

Amy straightened up before speaking, “You’re gonna hate my guts but I’m gonna say it, Luce. You’re being selfish.”

Selfish?
