“Better than dessert,” he said in a low voice as he rubbed my back.

“Mmhhmm,” is all I could muster up to reply.

Chapter 18

Lucy

I woke before my alarm to Jason stirring.

“Hey, sorry, go back to sleep. I’ll go grab breakfast so Amy doesn’t bite my head off.”

I reached over and pulled him to me. “Wait, just one more minute.”

He scooted up close and wrapped his arms around me. After a minute he kissed my forehead then pulled away. I rolled to watch him get out of bed and find his underwear. What a nice view.

“I think my shirt is in there. Along with your dress.”

“Oh well. Amy will forgive you for turning the lights on if you come back with food.”

He pulled his jeans up and found his socks, but his shoes were also outside my room. He leaned to kiss me one more time before he went to find his things and go get food. I rolled back over knowing my alarm still had at least half an hour before going off.

I had barely dozed off when the alarm finally started buzzing. I got up and threw my robe on then went to grab coffee. As I did, I heard the door, and he was back with food.

Amy came moseying out of her room.

“Same spread? You’re fired.” Amy said. She still got a plate down and took some food to the table after she made coffee.

“So, the interview went well?” I asked.

“Yeah, but they said next week. They had some other people left to interview. So, fingers crossed. Where were you guys last night?” Amy asked.

“Dinner downtown,” I said as I sipped my coffee.

“Fancy. I went by the club, some guy was there with Jaz.”

Jason spoke up, “Yeah, new guy. How was he?”

“Well, he’s not a pretty lesbian, but I guess he was an okay bartender.”

I tossed a piece of bagel at her head.

“Oh well, it’s probably for the best. I don’t usually have dates where they can trace me back places. Don’t shit where you eat, right?”

Jason and I looked sheepishly at each other and quietly finished our breakfast.

“Thanks for the food, I’ll get out of your hair. I’m only working til 7 so are you gonna be at the club later?”

I looked to Jason, and he spoke up, “We’ll swing by so you can catch up.”

Amy looked at me. “Now that’s a good answer. Good job.” She walked to her room.

“Smart man,” I said.

“Hey, if the best friend doesn’t approve, parents don’t matter.” Jason grinned as he sipped his coffee.

I made another cup of coffee, but he came and wrapped his arms around me.

“Okay, worst part of my day. I gotta go shower and head to the club in a bit for the stuff I still need to get done. But I’ll meet you here later? Four or so?”
