I nodded and kissed him like he was leaving for war.

“Umm, don’t do that or we both are gonna be late.” He grinned down at me, kissed my forehead, then took off. I shuffled to my room, irritated that I had responsibilities besides being in bed with him all day.

After he took off, I got ready for work and left. I was already there when my phone rang. It was Amy, but she knew I couldn’t talk at work. I sent the call to voicemail but text her.

Me: Hey, still at work, what’s up?

Amy: My dad just called. The case hit his desk and his assistant of course knows you.

I paused. Her dad and my dad are colleagues and pretty friendly.

Me: What did he say?

Amy: Too much to text, but he’s trying to push it up. He’s probably calling your dad.

Me: Shit. Okay, I’ll call you after my shift ends. Keep your phone handy.

It was only a quarter to two.

I sat shaking my leg and biting at my fingers. It took everything I had to focus and work. As I sat there, though, I had a thought. With Eric’s case and the evidence I gave, Jason had a chance of having the charges dropped. My adrenaline was pumping. Three couldn’t come fast enough. I needed Amy to talk to her dad.

When three rolled around, I jumped up as soon as the next shift walked through the door. As soon as I got out of the building, I called Amy.

She picked up quickly. “Hey, have you heard from your dad yet?”

“No, but you’re probably right. I bet it won’t be long. But I had a thought. Will you ask your dad about Jason’s case? Maybe since I turned Eric in, he can just drop the charges. It was in my defense.”

“Say no more.” She hung up. But I knew she was on the job. She would get his assistant to pull it. She was a nice lady and we met lots of times over the years. So as much as I was freaking out that she passed my report off so fast to Amy’s dad, I figured she would be willing to help with this. And her dad would move mountains for her since he lost her case a few years ago. Plus, it was the right thing to do.

I practically ran home and changed then texted Jason.

Me: Hey, I’m home so come whenever!

Jason: Is that a promise?

Me: Yes, to both!

Amy called me back as I was freshening my makeup. “Okay, he said since you’re claiming Jason reacted in your defense, he will try to push Eric’s case first then once he’s convicted or pleads guilty, he can drop Jason’s charges. But he can’t dismiss it yet, his attorney will only use it against us.”

That wasn’t exactly what I wanted to hear, but he was still saying he didn’t plan to try Jason’s case.

“Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for your help.”

“Bitch, please. It’s not help, it’s the right thing to do. But let’s wait to celebrate until after that jerk gets what he deserves. Gotta run, see you tonight.”

Just as we were hanging up, Jason was knocking on the door. I ran and swung it open and flung myself into his arms and he picked me up off the ground.

“I hate leaving, but do enjoy these greetings,” he said.

He walked us inside and closed the door.

“I have news, pretty good news I think.” Before I could explain he leaned in and kissed me hard, swirling his tongue deep into my mouth.

“Priorities, now continue.” He placed me back on the ground and I pulled him to the sofa once I regained my bearings. I explained everything Amy said and could see tension in his neck loosen.

“Wow, Amy might get different breakfast tomorrow. That’s great news.”

He pulled me close and nuzzled his head into my neck sending goosebumps down my arm.
