I shook my head and answered, “Not like this, but I don’t mind. It was great. Hopefully, you thought so, too!” How lame? I wish I had just kept it short and simple. What a girly thing to say.
The guitarist shook my hand and said they were going to discuss the auditions and let us all know before the night was over. I thanked him, hoping he didn’t notice my heart about to beat from my chest, and smiled at the other two and went to walk off stage when the bassist reached for my hand again.
“Let me help you. I’m Eric by the way,” as he led me down the stairs.Oh Eric, you’re going to be my next beautiful mistake, I just know it.
“Thanks, Eric. How kind of you. Maybe I’ll see you around.” I smiled and walked back to the bar.
Jaz brought me a Blue Moon. “On the house, that was awesome. They’d be crazy not to pick you.” I was blushing.
“Thanks, Jaz. I was so nervous. But now I can relax.” I took a swig. “But oh my God, what if they don’t pick me?” Panic was setting in. Jaz looked like she was ready to chime in, but I beat her to it, “What if theydo?”
Jaz smiled and walked away. Such a great bartender. She knew how to keep the tips coming but also get out of a weird conversation with grace. I grabbed my cell to text Amy.
Me: Well, it’s done. Now we wait.
Amy: Oh my God, how did it feel? Do you think you got it?
Me: I won’t know til later but I think I killed it! I’ll keep you posted, get back to work, slacker!
Amy: Are you going home or hanging out?
Me: Probably staying a bit but I’ll be home before you are.
Amy: Okay, be safe and get some of that big dick energy!
I left her on read. Hopefully, she got the message. Jason definitely wasn’t giving me any good vibes today. But, Eric was.
I stayed a while and chatted with some of the regulars and caught the new bands. Some were good, some not so much. I was facing the bar in between sets when I looked up to see Eric walking up behind me in the mirror on the wall behind the bar. I didn’t want to seem too eager, so I played it off like I hadn’t noticed him.
“Hey, Lucy, is this seat taken?” He asked smoothly.
“That depends, who’s asking?” I turned and grinned at him, so he pulled the stool out to sit on.
“You just hanging here alone?”
“Sort of, I know most of the people in here but yeah, my friend is working so I’m just hanging. Better here than alone at my place,” I answered.
He signaled for the bartender and Jason came over. “What’s up man, what can I get ya?”
“Two Blue Moons,” Eric told him as he smiled over at me. I looked up and Jason’s demeanor went from chill bartender to his normal scowl. He pushed two beers over to us and walked away.
“When’s the last time you checked your phone, Lucy?” Eric asked as he took a sip of beer.
I shrugged, and went to pull my phone out. “Everyone calls me Luce, but you can call me-OH MY GOD!” I nearly fell off the stool. Eric had a huge grin on his face and my heart was racing. I was so excited I grabbed the nearest body to hug which was Eric.
“Oh my God! I can’t believe it! I got it? For real? Me?” I was practically screaming in his ear.
He squeezed me back and I felt his face nuzzle into my neck and his hand on my exposed back. “I guess I need to always bring you good news so I can get this action regularly.”
I wasn’t shy, but I definitely felt my cheeks blushing as I realized I practically rubbed my breasts all over him. Damn corset.
“Congrats, Luce. Be ready for tomorrow night. Oh, here, almost forgot.” I pulled away from him and he passed me some folded-up sheets of paper. It was the rest of the normal set. He grabbed his bottle, laid some cash down, then flashed another amazing smolder before he walked back to the stage area. What a disaster he will be.
I turned back to the bar to finish my beer and laid the music down to grab my phone and text Amy.
Me: You won’t believe this, but I got it! First gig is tomorrow night!
Amy: I believe it, you totally deserve it! I will be there tomorrow for sure!
