“I hope only good things, Jase and I go way back so you never know.” Everyone chuckled and Jason gripped my shoulder and gave it a shake.

“Man, it’s good to see ya. I had no idea you were coming. How long you here?” Jason motioned to Matt, and he brought me a beer and Jason a water.

“Still not drinking I see?” I asked as I sipped from my bottle.

“Not much. Maybe for special occasions. Speaking of, you missed the toast earlier. Jaz is leaving us for bigger and better things.”

I turned to her. She looked down at her feet then lifted her head up with a tight smile.

“So, almost there, huh. Internship, right?”

She shrugged. “Yeah, next step to MD.”

“I always knew you would do it.”

‘I haven’t done it yet but getting closer,” she said.

Amy chimed in. “Wait. You’reMikeMike?” Her head was tilted, and her brown eyes shot to Jaz.

“Last time I checked, it was just Mike.”

Jaz shot her deep brown eyes at Amy. She raised her brow then grabbed her partner’s hand, walked away, and Lucy went after them. Jaz’s eyes watched as they left.

“What was that about?” I asked with a smirk.

“I have no clue.” She shrugged. “I need to take off.” Jaz started to walk behind the bar.

Jason flung it open for her before she climbed under. “Do you really have to go so soon? We just wrapped up your party. I can have the kitchen whip you up some food.”Always my wingman.

Jaz could barely look at me. This was going to be harder than I thought.

“Yeah, I appreciate it, Jason. I need to find Lucy and thank her since Idoubtyou decorated and got that massive cake. But I’ll be back soon, I promise.” She gave him a big squeeze and he patted her back gently.

“You better. And don’t forget, Lucy is gonna be all over you about wedding stuff soon.”

She walked out from behind the bar and was holding a small bag. She barely looked in my direction as she spoke. “Well, good to see you. Have a good night.”

I stood and reached my hand out, but she was already walking away, rounding the corner to where another room opened up. That’s where the others had gone.

“Man, it just got cold as ice in here.” Jason said as he sat back down next to me.

“Yeah, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it wasn’tthat.”

“Don’t worry man, she’ll come around. Anyway, tell me what’s going on! It’s been ages bro! Here to visit your folks?”

I kept watching the room to see her walk out. “Not exactly.”

“Well, is everything okay? You seem off.”

I watched as Jaz finally took quick strides from the side room to the door. Watching her walk out of that door was almost as hard as watching her walk out of my parent’s door the night we called it quits.

“Mike, hello?”

Jason calling my name snapped me back to attention. “Yeah. Sorry. What?”

“Dude, are you alright?” he asked.

“Yeah, just nervous.”
