“Definitely not for the timid,” Mike chimed in.

I shot him a look, but he squeezed my hand again and winked at me.God why was that wink so hot?

“So, Lucy, have you and Jason started any plans for the wedding?” Onyx asked.

She looked over at Jason. “We started making some lists for venues to check out and stuff but no dates or anything yet. It won’t be the fall for sure, but I don't know that it’ll be too far out. Just depends on what we find.”

“Well, I’d love to do some sample styles for you. No hard feelings if you don’t like our work.” Onyx leaned over and touched her knee. “But I would personally do your hair and makeup.”

“Oh my God! I’ll absolutely come do a consult. In fact, I need a new salon anyway. My stylist moved a year ago. I tried two girls in the same salon, but they didn’t knock my socks off.”

Onyx pulled a card out. “This is my place. I’ll be sure to leave your name so you can schedule with me.”

“Ohhh, special treatment. Honestly, I forgot you had the place, or I would’ve come sooner. I usually stick to the square.”

Onyx waved her off. “I haven’t been around in a while. I stay busy and would rather go home and put my feet up most nights. But I didn’t realize I was missing the view.” She looked back at Matt again. “Anyway, not the fall, but you don’t want to have a long engagement?”

“Jason said he was ready to go to the courthouse anytime.” Lucy looked at him with a silly grin. “I don’t need a huge wedding, but I still want to have my special day. I honestly never imagined I would get married. But Mom was really excited and well, I want to have some special memories being tied to this man.”

Jason turned his head. He coughed then rubbed his face before turning back.

Onyx beamed and her hand flew to her chest. “Oh, how sweet. She made you cry.”

Jason glared at her, but Lucy rubbed his back, and everyone took a drink.

Onyx continued after her sip. “So, a quick wedding. Are y’all planning to have babies right away or wait a while?”

Lucy looked at Jason with raised brows. He shrugged. “Whatever she wants. She’ll make a great mom. But if she wants to wait, we will.”

“We did establish we both want kids,” Lucy broke in. “I’m still just undecided on my work situation. It’s a lot right now, but I don’t know if I’m ready to quit the station just yet.”

Mike broke in. “It’ll be nice to enjoy some time together just the two of you anyway. No rush on that part. Lucy’s got plenty of great years ahead.”

“What about you, Mike?” Jason asked.

Mike looked over at me and smiled. “I always told Jaz we should have at least two. Growing up an only child was the pits, at least until I met Jason.”

“Yeah, same man. Thank God for ol’ Mikey.”

That name sent a pang to my chest. That was Jason’s old nickname for Mike.

“Man, haven’t heard that in years!”

Jason laughed. “Yeah, because when you went off to Cali you told me to stop calling you that. He didn’t want to be Mikey anymore; he was Big Mike.”

“Like the rapper?” Lucy asked.

Mike let out a belly laugh, and Jason doubled over. I did all I could not to laugh at her.

“No babe, just because he was big. But I’m impressed you know who that is.”

She grimaced at him. “I work at a radio station and majored in music. I’m offended you’d think I wouldn’t know who that was.”

My brows shot up and my lips thinned. He was in trouble. Lucy’s scowl melted away fast, though, and she rolled her eyes then asked, “What about you, Jaz? Mike said at least two. How many kids do you want?”

All eyes were on me, including Mike’s. “I don’t know.” I shrugged. “I haven’t given much thought to it. We did talk about it ages ago butwewere practically babies.”

Lucy locked eyes with me and I saw her brow twitch slightly. I wasn’t sure if my face was as relaxed as I hoped for, and her expression made me worry. “Anyway, more about me.”
