“I’ll go easy, but hold on tight.”
“I’m so nervous,” I said right before he started the engine, drowning out what I said.
Apparently, he heard me though, because he squeezed my thigh and said, “I got you.”
As we pulled from the parking lot, my nerves settled down. Instead, I was in awe. The feeling of riding down the road with the warm air blasting over my arms, the smell of the asphalt, fresh cut grass tickling my nose, and being flush against Bama was indescribable. Even riding with the windows down in the truck was nothing compared to it.
“It feels like I’m flying,” I shouted as we stopped at a red light.
He put his huge hand over my connected ones. The ride was amazing, and I wasn’t scared of falling. I could let go of him or even loosen my grip. But for now, I was going to use this excuse to hold onto him for dear life. I never wanted to let that feeling go. Or him.
Chapter 27
Bama
Finally having my woman on my bike was perfect. It sucked it took so long to get her there but we had to think of Sofie, too. Plus, I was probably more nervous than she was about leaving Sofie at the clubhouse. Although it was easier to leave her with Pinkie and Glenda than strangers at her school.
We rode for hours, well past dark, only stopping to eat and she checked in with Glenda. I got her a sissy bar, but she stayed close to me the whole ride. I didn’t mind, but I wanted to make her as comfortable as possible. She hadn’t ridden before. I hoped to have her on again soon, but I knew she wouldn’t want to spend too much time away from Sofie.
We got back to the clubhouse late and Sofie was passed out, but Linny told Glenda she was ready to leave, so I didn’t ask if she just wanted to stay. She nearly screamed with excitement when I asked if she’d drive the truck home so I could take the bike. I’d told her how much I loved my truck, but I loved her and trusted her with it. It would be fine at the clubhouse but it was easier to have all my vehicles at home.
The next day, we woke Sofie and left early in the truck, stopping for pancakes before heading to the clubhouse. The girls were enjoying their pool time while Sofie was out of school. It was still in the eighties, so the pool was warm.
Glenda and the others told Linny to just take the week off and hang with Sofie, so I got them set up at the pool early, then headed inside. She didn’t even work here, but she said she enjoyed helping out. She mentioned a job, but I wasn’t sure she should get one. I could take care of them, and the bunnies worked at the clubhouse for a place to stay and food. She didn’t need to earn her keep, so it annoyed me that she was helping out, but it was better than her finding an outside job.
Was I overly possessive? Maybe. But besides never having felt this way for anyone, I couldn’t help this small but nagging voice in the back of my mind. Things were too good. It was all too easy. That’s why I didn’t want to leave her for four nights for Thunder Beach. But Hammer wanted me to go.
We were supposed to be using it as an opportunity to find out if the Bloody Scorpions, or anyone, had suspicions of us at the stockyard. Plus, we needed to know if they were becoming a problem anytime soon. We also found a lot of prospects last year and in the spring at the rally and it didn’t hurt to rub elbows with allies.
Normally I wouldn’t think twice about going, but I didn’t want her to be alone and wasn’t sure how she felt about staying at the clubhouse. She’d spent a lot of time here over the last coupleof months, and slowly Sofie has, too, but they hadn’t spent the night. I wanted her to be comfortable, but I also wanted her safe.
Heading to the bar, I found Rogers and Hammer, taking a seat with them.
“Morning. Your little ladies playing outside?” Hammer asked.
“Yeah. They’ll hang here when me and Butterbean meet those guys later.” It was time for another delivery to the furniture guys. Since they were here, I figured they could wait for me instead of having Ollie chill at my place.
“What’s this about you not wanting to go to Thunder Beach?”
Grimacing at Rogers, I said, “I’ll go if you want me to. But if I’m not needed, it would be cool to stay back. Someone has to stick around here, right?”
“We have plenty of members staying home. What’s the problem? You’re an enforcer, Bama. We need you there.”
Grinding my teeth, I said, “I’ll go.”
“Bring her with you, man,” Hammer said.
“We got Sofie.”
“And we’re taking some bunnies. Plus, she doesn't have to go to all the events with you,” Hammer said with a waggle to his brow. “I got us some nice digs. The ladies will love it.”
“I’m not interested in patch chasers.”
“Hey, not saying we need to bring anyone home but we’re there to mix a little business and pleasure.” Hammer smirked, rubbing his hands together.
Shaking my head, I said, “No wonder Allie won’t acknowledge you.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Hammer said standing quickly from his bar stool, causing it to wobble but not fall.
