I’ve been in denial all my life. I realize with a bone-deep certainty that I love this woman. I think I might have always loved her.

Chapter 8

(Alexandra)

______

The blaring of my phone wakes me up the next morning. I sit up and hurriedly pick up the call without checking who it is. I don’t want to wake Ritchie who is sleeping soundly beside me. Although it’s a little hard to wrestle myself out of his grip.

“Hello?” I say into the phone.

“Hey, Alex.”

I remove the phone from my ear and confirm the caller I.D.

“Wesley.”

If I had known it was him, I wouldn’t have picked up the call.

“You sound mad. Which means I really did fuck up yesterday. Shit, I’m sorry Alex. I was drunk and a little out of my mind. You know I’m not usually like that,” he says and he sounds so sincere I immediately forgive him.

“I know. We’re good,” I tell him.

“So we’re still friends?” he asks.

“Yeah, of course.”

He lets out a breath of relief.

“Thanks. So, you’re not too busy to grab breakfast with your friend, are you?” he asks.

I’m confused.

“Aren’t you in L.A?”

“No, I flew out to Illinois. That’s where you are, right?” he asks.

“Yeah,” I say slowly, “How do you know that?”

“You mentioned it last night,” he answers.

“Oh, and you came here to see me?”

Something doesn’t seem right.

“No, I came here to scout the location for a new film we’re producing. You just happened to be in the city too,” he assures me, “So breakfast?”

“I’m not so sure, Wesley,” I say chewing my bottom lip and looking at Ritchie who still looks fast asleep beside me. I really don’t want to leave him.

“Come on. Let me buy you breakfast. Think of it as an apology for yesterday. Please. I feel horrible about how I behaved yesterday.”

“Okay fine,” I say because I don’t want to seem like a terrible friend.

“Nice, I’ll send you the details, meet me there,” Wesley says before hanging up.

I’m about to stand up and get ready when a hand tightens around my arm.

“Please tell me you’re not actually thinking of going,” Ritchie says. He sits up and stares at me with wide eyes which leads me to think he’s been awake for a while.
