I took her hand and led her into the bedroom, then pulled down the covers.
“Lie down, sweetheart.You rest while I make sure I have all the things on your list of encouraged foods and pick up your prescription.Yankee and Gunner will remain here if you need anything.I need to feed you so you can take one of your prenatal vitamins.”
I pulled one of my shirts out of the dresser and helped her into it, then handed her a pair of panties from her drawer.Her head had barely touched the pillow before she was out, her breathing deep and even.Her emotions had run so high, and then I’d physically exhausted her in the shower, that she just couldn’t last another moment without some rest.
I leaned down and brushed a kiss against her forehead before getting dressed and leaving instructions with Yankee and Gunner.Teller was on the front steps when I left the house and he gave me a nod.
“I’ll help keep her safe,” he said.
“Thank you, Teller.”I clapped him on the back and removed the keys to the SUV from my pocket.No way was I going grocery shopping on my bike, not with the amount of food and drinks I needed to get.I not only had Luciana’s list to tend to, but I also needed to ensure I had sodas, coffee, and food enough for anyone who helped keep an eye on her.There was also an errand I wanted to personally handle, but I was keeping that shit to myself.Luciana had enjoyed the little pink vibrator so much, I wanted to stop by the adult store and pick up another toy or two, and I sure as shit wasn’t delegating that to anyone.I’d lucked out with getting a decent one off the Internet before, but I wanted to browse the shop in person this time.Find just the right items without staring at my damn phone.
I’d never done the domestic thing, not even with Ryker’s mom, but I had to admit that it felt kind of nice.I liked having Luciana waiting for me, enjoyed waking with her in my arms, but mostly I liked how she’d made my house feel more like a home.She hadn’t made any changes to the place, except for her presence, and that was enough.The warmth of her smile could light up any room, and it had quickly thawed my heart.
I only hoped I didn’t fail her now.
Chapter Ten
Luciana
I didn’t like Spider’s plan, not even a little.He didn’t know my father the way I did, didn’t understand exactly what the man was capable of, and I worried it would get us all killed.We were at the airstrip, meeting my father and Pedro Lopez.I had no doubt that he’d bring others, men he trusted, those who had hurt me.It wasn’t just a show of power for Spider’s benefit, but to remind me of my place and what would happen if I disobeyed.I’d tried to reason with my husband, had spent the last four days begging him not to do this.I understood that he felt it was the only solution, but I worried that he’d pay a steep price if he followed through.Too many things could go wrong.
I tried to swallow my fear, but my stomach was going to revolt at any moment.I’d already thrown up several times this morning, and I didn’t think it was due to my pregnancy.I’d ridden in the SUV with Teller, while Spider and half the club had arrived on their bikes.A rumble in the distance had me looking out the back window and my jaw dropped a little as about twenty other bikers pulled up, none of them wearing the same cut as Spider and the men from Hades Abyss.
“Who are they?”I asked Teller.
He smirked a little.“Didn’t think your man would come unprepared, did you?He called in reinforcements.The presidents from four other clubs are here, along with their VPs and a handful of men.He knew your dad wouldn’t play by the rules, so Spider didn’t either.”
“They all came to help?”
Teller nodded.“Torch is the President of the Dixie Reapers, which is where Sofia is living.He’s just as vested in having your dad disappear as Spider is.Not to mention Ryker lives with the Dixie Reapers since his wife is the sister of their Treasurer.”
“And the others?”I asked.
“Devil’s Boneyard has family ties to the Dixie Reapers, and Devil’s Fury has ties to Devil’s Boneyard.They’re all one big happy family.Reckless Kings have put their necks on the line a few times to help other clubs over the past year or two.”
“Five clubs,” I mumbled.I hadn’t realized that Spider was friendly with so many people.Weren’t they all supposed to be rivals or something?I still didn’t quite understand how all this worked, but I hoped I’d learn one day.
“Doesn’t matter how many guys your dad brought with him.We have more.”
I nodded and watched as the steps to my father’s jet lowered.He came down them, holding his head at a regal angle while buttoning his suit jacket.Heaven forbid he ever wear anything other than his expensive custom-made suits and shirts.Even his shoes were custom.
Behind him, Pedro descended the stairs, and then three other men from my worst nightmares.It was the man who came after them all that almost made me pass out.My father’s right-hand man, and my number one tormentor.
“He brought Ricardo,” I said.
“The last guy?”Teller asked.
I nodded.“This isn’t good.”
Teller pulled out a file folder I hadn’t even noticed and flipped through it.“Ricardo Sanchez.Right-hand man to Mateo Gomez, and not afraid to get his hands dirty.”
“What’s that mean?”I asked.
Teller grinned.“It means we know everything about Mr.Sanchez, as well as your dad and every man he brought with him.None of them are leaving the country -- well, not all of them, anyway.A few pieces will be sent back as a warning to anyone else in your father’s cartel.No one will fuck with you after this.”
“How?”My brow furrowed as I stared at the folder.“Surge?”
He nodded.“Yep, Surge.Wire, Shade, Outlaw, and Shield.”
