Johnathan rolled his eyes before rolling over and quickly standing up from the bed, grabbing his clothes and putting them on but the smile never disappeared from my face. “So, what if I am?”
“You’re so sweet,” I cooed, climbing out after him. I stood behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist and resting my cheek against his back. “You know you’re my number oneguy.”
“I sure hope so.” Johnathan quickly spun around, crashing his lips down to mine in an aggressive, possessive, manner that caught me off guard yet took my breath away. “I’ll try my best to make it. I’ll text you.”
I stood there and watched as Johnathan slipped out the door, waiting till I heard the sound of the front door closing firmly shut. I took a few steps back until the back of my legs hit the bed and allowed myself to fall down onto it.
“Hey, El, what do you plan on,” but Kara’s voice immediately stopped, and I couldn’t helpbut chuckle. “Can you at least close your door the next time you’re naked?”
“Or maybe next time you don’t barge in,” I retorted before sitting up and standing, throwing on the shorts and Johnathan’s sparetee that sat on the floor. “What do I plan on what?”
Kara huffed, slowly turning to glance at me over her shoulder to see if I had clothes on. Iarched a brow at her demeanor before her shoulders relaxed and she quickly spun around. “What are you wearing to the game?”
“It’s a baseball game, not a party, Kay,” I told her as I made my way towards my closet. “We don’t need to correlate outfits.”
“I’ve never been to a ball game before,” I heard her soft voice say behind me.
I whipped around and shot a surprised glance in her direction. “Wait, are you serious?I’ve known you your entire life, how did I not know that?”
“I guess you’re not as observant as you thought.” Kara shrugged before she turned on her heel and sauntered out of my room, presumably to go change.
I turned back to face my closet, my eyes quickly scanning my clothes. Settling on a dark yellow baseball jersey, which I had bought when I first enrolled here since it was our school'scolor, and a pair of dark jean shorts, I threw my hair back into a ponytail which I slipped through the back of my baseball cap. Finally putting on my dirty white vans, I exited my room to find Kara waiting by the front door sporting one of our school’s shirts and jean shorts similar to mine.
“Took you long enough, let’s go,” I teased as I approached, pulling open the door and walking out towards her car. “I’m starved.”
“Says the girl who called her main squeeze to get in some sexy time.”
I tried to act offended, but I couldn’t as a laugh escaped my lips. I opened the passenger side door and climbed in, looking over at Kara as she started up the vehicle. “Why do you think I’m hungry?”
Kara didn’t say a word in response but instead drove off in the direction of the diner wewere meeting Benjamin at. It was a quiet, quaint little diner that not many of the college kids knew about, only the regulars which is what made the place so welcoming.
As we pulled up into the lot, we noticed him standing by the door, waiting for us. Kararan up and threw her arms around his neck, hugging him in a tight embrace. I sauntered up behind her, my hands in my pockets as I flashed him a smile.
“Looking good, girls,” Benjamin said before I noticed he was holding something in his hand, and he extended it in my direction. My eyes widened when I finally comprehended what it was: Cooper’s spare jersey. “You’d look even better in that, though.”
“I can’t wear that,” I breathed out, shaking my head as I tried to give it back to Benjamin, but he refused to take it from me.
He raised his hands in the air and took three steps away from me while Kara tried to stifleher laughter at my distraught expression. “Nope, you have to. Cooper wanted you to wear it, and he’s never let anyone wear one of his game jerseys before. You don’t want to break his heart, do you?”
“You are impossible,” I mumbled, my hand falling in defeat.
We walked into the diner, Benjamin holding the door open so Kara and I could walk in. The two of them went and grabbed a booth as I headed into the bathroom to change. Stripping out of my jersey and exchanging it for his, I couldn’t help but laugh gently. He’s trying, that’s for sure.
Walking back out into the diner, I went straight for the table they were at and slid in next to Kara, forcing her deeper into the booth. The waitress came by not long after and took our orders, remembering what Kara and I liked.
“So, how was your date with Coop?” Benjamin asked after our food had been delivered.
I raised a brow at him, my burger still in my hand before I slowly lowered it back down to my plate. “It was good, I actually really enjoyed myself. That friend of yours definitely likes achallenge, though.”
“Not sure if I’d call him stubborn or competitive,” he responded with a laugh as he shook his head. “He’s always had everything handed to him, so I think whenever something isn’t easy, he becomes more… persistent.”
“So I’ve noticed,” I mumbled, finally taking a bite out of my burger.
Benjamin watched me as I chewed my food and I felt my eyebrows furrow together on instinct, not liking the feeling of his eyes searing through my skin. “Are you not at allinterested?”
Kara noticeably tensed beside me, practically choking on the fry she had just slipped past her lips. I cast a glance in her direction before I released a soft sigh. I wiped my hands off on my jean shorts, reaching for my drink and taking a sip before I risked looking up at Benjamin.
“I’ll tell you what I told him: I’m not ready nor am I looking for a relationship,” I began to recite, recalling back to the words I had spoken to Cooper on our nondate. “I’d love to spend time with him as friends, but just that. Friends. I don’t want anything more than that.”
