covered the dugout and sent a wink my way.

“So glad you came,” he said softly so only the three of us could hear. “Let’s see if you

can bring me good luck.”

“Well, I am part Irish.” Benjamin laughed beside us, but Kara only shook her head in

what appeared to be embarrassment.

Instead of responding, Cooper rolled the ball that he had been tossing across the awning

and it fell into my lap. Raising a brow, I tossed the ball between my hands as I maintained eye

contact.

“Kiss it,” Cooper told me with a slight chuckle. Smiling, I kissed the ball, leaving a

perfect lipstick mark on it. Rolling the ball back to him, Cooper smiled as it fell into his glove. He sauntered out to the outfield with the rest of the team and started warming up his arm.

I watched intently as his muscles rippled through the back of his shirt each time he wound up to

pitch the ball.

“Guess I should’ve put out more,” I heard Laura’s shrill voice say from my left. Turning

my head to watch her approach from the stairs, my eyes narrowed slightly. “Perhaps if I had, he

would’ve let me wear his jersey.”

“It’s not my fault he knew it’d look better on me,” I found myself responding, my lips

saying the words before my brain could stop me.

Kara’s head whipped in my direction as she lightly slapped my arm, ducking her head

slightly as she recoiled from Laura’s intense glare. “What did we talk about diffusing a situation

instead of making it worse?”

“I’ve told you I have selective hearing,” I replied with a shrug, turning my attention back

to the field.

I heard Laura’s shrill voice continue to talk with her friend, but I tuned it out as they

made their way up a few rows behind us. I saw Kara looking down at her phone before she cast

me a nervous glance, but I ignored her, instead turning my attention over to Benjamin.“Have you ever watched baseball before?” He asked, leaning forward to rest his elbows

on his knees so he could look at me past Kara.

“What do you take me for?” I pondered, pretending to be more hurt than I actually was.Kara looked between the two of us, embarrassment evident on her face. “I haven’t.”“Don’t worry, babe, I’ll teach you the ropes,” I told her as I looked over at Benjamin.

“Don’t listen to him. I can guarantee I know more than he does.”

“Oh, is that so?” He fired back as he narrowed his gaze on me. A cocky smile came to

my lips as Kara groaned between us, crossing her arms over her chest.
