Benny: It’s a surprise.
Putting my phone back in my pocket, I pulled my keys out of the other and unlocked the door, heading inside. Closing the door behind me, I heard the television playing from the living room.
“Honey, I’m home,” I called out, walking toward her.
“How was the shelter?” She asked as I fell onto the couch beside her and kicked my feet up on the table. She had a bag of chocolate resting on her lap and I raised a brow, curious why she had asked me to get her some when she already had it. “I started my period today.”
“Ah,” I laughed as I reached for the spare blanket on the back of the couch and placed itover my legs. “It was good though. Mia wasn’t happy when I left again.”
“I’m sorry, babe,” Kara said as she leaned over and rested her head on my shoulder. “I’m sure someone will adopt her, soon.”
Shrugging my shoulders, I pushed myself off the couch and started to head toward my room when I heard Kara sigh heavily. I stopped, rolling my eyes before turning around and putting a hand on my hips.
“Benji wants to take me out tonight,” she said slowly as her mouth formed a tight line.
“And?” I implored, raising a brow.
“And I kind of need help getting ready.”
Laughing, I shook my head before I gestured toward my room with a smile and Karaquickly jumped off the couch. Blowing past me, she darted up the stairs and into my bedroom.
Following behind her, I entered the room and saw her digging through my closet. I leaned in the door frame and watched expectantly before she came strolling out with an armful of clothes.
“So, where is he taking you?” I asked as I finally walked in and stood at the foot of my bed where she was laying out the outfits.
“He won’t tell me,” Kara huffed as she crossed her arms in front of her chest. “What is itwith these boys and their secret dates?”
I laughed and shook my head as I scanned her picks and reached for one of them. Pushing the silk black tank into her arms, I smiled softly as I turned and walked toward my dresser. Pulling out an abstract pattern mini skirt, I followed after her to the bathroom where she was changing.
Once Kara was ready, she exited the bathroom with a large grin on her face as she smoothed down the skirt.
“Could you help with my makeup, too?”
Nodding, I grabbed her hand and pushed her into the chair at my vanity as she giggled. Handing her my phone to play some music, I started reaching for my eyeshadow.
“So,you have no idea, huh?” I questioned after I finished one eye.
“None at all,” Kara huffed as she slammed her back into the chair. “Like, how am Isupposed to know how to dress?”
“Well, it’s like I always say,” I told her as I grabbed my eyeliner pen off the table. “Rather be overdressed than underdressed.”
Kara smiled softly as she kept her eyes closed. After finishing her eyes, I handed her themascara I usually used since I didn’t like putting mascara on other people.
Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door and Kara’s eyes widened. Chuckling, I put a hand on her shoulder and smiled before I left the room and walked toward the front door.
As I walked down the stairs and reached for the door, I was suddenly wrapped in a pair offirm arms, and I laughed loudly.
“I love hugs, Benji, but you got the wrong girl.”
“Shit,” Benjamin chuckled but he kept his arms around me. “Let’s just pretend I knew it was you. It’s not polite to not hug someone back, you know.”
I rolled my eyes as I wrapped my arms around his waist and a few beats later, Benjamin let go. I smiled up at him and my face softened as I saw the large bouquet of flowers he held in his hand.
“She’s going to love those,” I said softly as I bit my lip. “That’s so thoughtful of you.”
“Hey, baby,” Kara announced as she came strolling down the hallway. “Oh my god, arethose for me?”
“Nah, they’re for El,” he responded with a shrug as a smile appeared on his face. Karalaughed as she shook her head and walked up to him, pushing herself up with the balls of her feet to plant a kiss on his lips.
