“Just never pictured you guys that way is all,” he responded with a shrug.

“If only you knew what we really got up to.” I winked at him before spinning on my heel and walking towards the backyard.

I reached for the handle as his hand wrapped around my wrist and I looked back at him with a smile. The backyard was basically empty, everyone else inside dancing to the music and enjoying the drinks.

“So,” Cooper said as he sat down in one of the lawn chairs. “What do you have planned this week?”

“Oh god,” I mumbled as I sat down next to him. “I know for sure I’m meeting my dad for lunch on Tuesday, and I have a meeting with one of the freshmen I’m helping to mentor this semester on Wednesday, but that’s about it. Why?”

“Trying to decide when’s a good time to take you to an escape room.”

“An escape room? Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I asked with a laugh as I took a sip of my drink.

Cooper chuckled quietly as he shrugged his shoulders. “If you really want, Kara and Ben can come, too.”

“I’m not sure what would be worse,” I started to say as I pointed my drink at him. “Mealone in an escape room, or me and Benji locked in one together.”

“Well, I guess we’ll have to see, won’t we?”

"Are you absolutely sure, Kara?" I questioned as I held my phone to my ear, flipping through the paperwork that lay in front of me to make sure I didn't miss anything.

"I'm positive, Coop. I think this is a great idea," she reassured me. Sighing, I closed thepamphlet and quickly walked into my room to throw on some shorts.

"And she won't be back till 5?"

"Correct," Kara said with a small laugh. "You need to relax, Cooper, she's going to love it."

Satisfied, I hung up the phone just as the front door opened. Giving Benjamin a halfhearted wave, I didn't have the chance to tell him my news before he started hurriedly talking.

"I want to do something fun for Kay," he started to ramble as he followed behind me. "We always do basic dates and I want to blow her away."

Disappearing back into the guest room which I had claimed as my own as he spoke, Ipulled a shirt out of my closet and my wallet off the bed. Flipping through to make sure I had enough cash, I slipped my wallet and keys into my pocket.

"I think you should do some type of scavenger hunt," I told Benjamin as I walked out ofthe guest room, buttoning up my light blue shirt. "Kay would really love something like that."

"Do you think?" He asked, unsure as he scribbled out something on the notepad he had in front of him.

"I know so," I informed him as I slipped on my shoes. "Now get working on it."

"Where are you going?" Benjamin asked with a raised brow.

"There's something I got to do. Don't wait up for me."

Walking through the pet store that was near the animal shelter, I held tightly onto the yellow leash as I led Mia over to the toy aisle.

"Okay girl," I said as I bent down and pet her head. "Go pick out a toy."

As soon as I unclipped the leash from her collar, she sprinted down the aisle and went straight for a medium sized stuffed elephant. Laughing, I pulled out my phone and took a small video of her excitedly wagging her tail as she rolled around with the toy on the floor.

"Cute dog," a lady said as she came walking towards us. "What's its name?"

"Mia," I informed her as she jumped up to her paws and walked over to show the lady her new toy. "I just adopted her today, actually."

"Aren't you the sweetest guy ever," she said to me with a wide smile as she ran her hand through Mia's fur.

"Hopefully the girl I got her for thinks the same thing."

"Oh, I'm sure she will," she responded with a smile as she stood and walked back over to her cart. "Anyone would be crazy to not want her."
