She hastily jumped to her feet, walking around his room and collecting her clothes. She slipped back into her shorts and buttoned them before putting her arms into her tank top. Elliott scanned the room in search of her baseball cap when she spotted Cooper sitting on the floor with her hat hanging off his pointer finger.
“Looking for something?” He teased, twirling the hat around his finger with a taunting smile on his handsome face.
Elliott went to grab it from him, but he quickly pulled back, keeping it just out of arm’s reach. “Can I have my hat back, please?”
“Only if you promise this wasn’t a onetime thing,” he bargained.
“You’re holding my hat hostage?” She asked with a chuckle before folding her arms over her chest. “What makes you think I care about the hat that much?”
Cooper tilted his head, studying her. “Well, something is keeping you from walking out that door, and I highly doubt it’s my incredible charm and amazing sexual capabilities.”
A loud laugh slipped past her lips as her arms fell, her hands landing on her knees for a moment before she stood upright. Shaking her head, she spun around and walked towards the door, her hand landing on the handle. Elliott stopped for a moment, glancing back over her shoulder to see Cooper now on his feet, eyeing her carefully.
Instead of saying a word, she closed the distance between them and pushed herself up on the balls of her feet to crash her lips to his. He didn’t hesitate as he gripped her hips, kissing her back passionately as her hands dug into his thick, brown hair. Pulling back slightly, she snatched the hat from his hand. Elliott adjusted the velcro as Cooper kept her in his arms, placing it on his head before giving him one last, quick peck.
“I’ll be back for that hat.”
Spinning around, she stepped out of Cooper’s grasp and walked straight for his door, pulling it open before slipping back into the hall without so much as a glance back. As she walked down the hall and back down to the cramped party, she couldn’t fight the smile that spread across her face.
And as Cooper stood in his room with her hat on his head, he knew this girl would be the death of him.

making waves.
“Do we really have to go to this thing?” Elliott asked as she leaned against Cooper’s bedroom door frame, watching him grab a tee-shirt out of his dresser. “You know I can’t stand half of those people.”
Cooper threw on his black tee, turning to face Elliott with a small smile. She wore a loose tank that made her red swimsuit top visible, a pair of daisy dukes hugging her perfectly curvy hips. He closed the distance between them and hooked his fingers in her belt loops, pulling her into his body.
“Come on, baby,” he said as he dipped his head down and placed kisses along her neck and shoulder. “You know it’ll be fun to get out for a while.”
“As if you’re complaining,” she retorted with a raised brow, pulling back and forcing him to look down at her. “If I recall, it was you that wanted to stay in these last two weeks. I gave plenty of opportunities for us to go do something else.”
Cooper simply shrugged, leaning forward so their noses were practically touching. “I enjoyed doing you more. But now that we’ve been at it like rabbits, I think it’s about time our friends see our faces, no?”
“Didn’t realize you were calling the shots,” Elliott teased, taking a few steps backward towards the door, dragging Cooper with her.
“Don’t pretend that you don’t like it,” he retorted, swiftly bending down and pressing a quick kiss to her lips. Pulling his fingers out of her belt loops, he pulled the door open and spun her around, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and leading her out of his room and down the hall.
Elliott allowed him to take her downstairs, ignoring the questioning stares from some guys on the baseball team that were hanging out in the living room—a few of which she had slept with at one point or another.
“We’re heading to that beach party,” Cooper informed them, stopping by the front door and looking at them over his shoulder. “Don’t wait up.”
“Guess he’s got a bigger dick than me,” she heard one of them mumble to one another, just loud enough for her to hear.
Elliott was going to ignore them as she always did, but Cooper whipped around and approached his teammate before she could react. Once she was completely turned around, she saw his fist roughly balling up the shirt of the guy who had spoken, their faces inches away from each other.
“I think it’d be best if you kept your comments to yourself,” Cooper seethed through clenched teeth as she walked up behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder as he said, “don’t you agree?”
“Coop, let it go,” she told him softly, giving his shoulder a soft squeeze. “He’s not worth it.”
“Neither were you.”
Elliott’s eyes widened in surprise before she released Cooper’s shoulder and threw her hands up in the air. He turned his head to look at her and she smiled, leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before she took a couple of steps back. “Let him have it, baby.”
She walked backwards as Cooper swung a fist, landing a swift right hook to his teammate’s face. They brawled, the other guys in the room leaping up from their positions to break up the fight. Elliott rarely condoned fighting—unless involved standing up for someone else.
And she knew, without any doubt, he’d always defend her honor even when it wasn’t necessary.
