Gray eyes, the color of storm clouds. Knife-straight nose. Strong jaw.

Sharp. Precise. Unyielding.

Hers.

As if her thoughts had summoned him, she heard his footsteps before he opened the door, and the rush of relief at the sight of him bathed in the light of his cell phone made her legs tremble. She would have thrown herself at him, but she wasn’t entirely sure she’d make it the four steps without falling to the floor at his feet.

He didn’t ask if she was okay. Instead, he gathered her in his arms and squeezed her tight. Nose buried in the crook of his neck, she breathed him deep. The smell of leather and man soothed, and it didn’t take long for her shaking to stop.

“How’d you find me so fast?” Eve asked.

“Easy, I always know where you are.” He pressed a kiss into her hair.

“Always?”

“Yes.” He smoothed his hand down her spine, his palm coming to rest at the small of her back. “Doesn’t matter where you are or where you go, I’ll always find you, even without the tracker in your pocket.”

“What?” She leaned as far away as his grip would allow and looked him in the eyes. Aside from the knife Adam had given her, Eve didn’t have anything in her—

Oh.Mental math completed, two plus two equaled— “You put a tracker in my knife.”

“Yep.”

“But you gave it to me before we had sex. Before I told you everything about the Matthews and the women.”

“Yep.”

“Why?”

“Because I already knew I couldn’t lose you.”

“But—”

He kissed her hard and fast. “No buts. I fell in love with you the second you opened your eyes and seared me with those electric blues. Your safety is paramount to me. So, you’ll carry the knife everywhere you go, and we’ll resume your training as soon as you’re ready. Okay?”

She nodded. Not just because she agreed with Adam. After everything she’d been through, she wanted the confidence that came from being able to defend herself—defend her family. “Can you teach me to shoot too?”

He grinned and took her hand. “Already have Grant and Cody setting up a range in the barn. Davis and Gray will train with you.”

“Hey.” Zander poked his head around the door at the same time Adam’s phone started to ring. “Everyone’s meeting in the great room. You coming?” he asked, and she gave him a thumbs-up before he disappeared again.

“Yeah, I got her,” Adam said. “She’s fine. Yes, I know she’s afraid of the dark. Jesus, Gray. Fine. She wants to talk to you on speaker.” He hit the button on his phone.

“Hey, Gray. What’s up?”

“You okay?” she asked.

“Yes, I’m fine,” Eve replied, grinning as Adam rolled his eyes.

“Storm knocked the power out,” she said unnecessarily. “Grant went to find Davis, and Chase is starting a fire in the great room. Everyone’s meeting here. Jay wants to play Scrabble, so tell Adam to get your ass up here. No stopping for a little nookie along the way.”

Eve snorted. Gray was every bit as bossy as her brother. “Anything else?”

“Bring chips.”

Adam accompaniedhis fiancée into the great room and experienced a flush of happiness unlike any he’d ever experienced. They were all here. Together. Safe.

Over by the pool table, Grant, Cody, Doc, and Chase had drinks poured and a doubles game going. By the fire, Gray and Jay set up their board game while Davis sat on the floor, his back to the hearth, his arm around Jeff as they watched the process.
