Jesus…talk about domestic bliss.

The only thing missing? A woman of his own. Someone to love. To care for. To cuddle with. Someone he could share secret looks and inside jokes with. Someone who wanted him as much as he wanted her.

He huffed and shook his head. Never gonna happen. And not just because he’d learned his lesson with Ashley. With the direction the world was spinning in, they hovered on the brink of a global meltdown.

And smack-dab in the middle of it? The only people fighting for freedom, justice, and the lives of all? The motherfucking JTT. So yeah, now wasn’t the time for speed dating. Forget about finding “the one.”

A true needle meet haystack impossibility, even if such a person did exist. Nope. The chances of coming face-to-face with the woman who was meant for him…

Less than zero. Less than?—

“You good?” Chase asked through the headset.

“Yep,” he replied, wanting to give control of the whirlybird back to an actual pilot, but not wanting to rush him at the same time. “I’m good.”

“You want to try landing this thing?”

“Fuck no!” Heart skipping a couple of beats, he executed a quick glance at Chase on his right. “Have you lost your mind?”

The bastard chuckled, flipped a couple of switches, but didn’t offer to take control. “Alpha Grizzly Outpost, this is Black Hawk One.”

“This is Alpha Grizzly,” Adam replied. “Go ahead, Black Hawk One.”

“Black Hawk One has crossed into bear territory. ETA to landing zone is thirty minutes.”

“About fucking time,” Gray replied, her voice sounding tinny and flat through the noise-filtering headset.

Chase grinned. “Hey, baby. Did you miss me?”

“Hell no. I’m just up at the ass crack of dawn looking for worms.”

“Ground’s frozen, sweetheart.”

She snorted. “So’s your head. Speaking of…”

“He’s fine. They all are. But we’ll need some help offloading.”

“Roger that,” Adam replied. “Ground crew is on standby. Ready and waiting.”

“Copy, Alpha Grizzly. We’ll see you in a few.”

“Can’t wait,” Gray said. “But there better not be any snow globes on that bird.”

“Baby, what’s the point of traveling if I don’t bring you back a souvenir?”

“You’re an idiot. You know that, right?”

“Yep. But you love me anyway.”

“Mmph,” she replied, and Cody grinned despite being damn near paralyzed with fear.

Landing this beast? Absolutely, one hundred percent, out of the question. He needed Chase to take over before he crashed them into the side of a mountain. “If you two are done with your weird flirting ritual, think you could maybe, I don’t know, actually do some pilot shit?”

This time, Chase snorted. “What’s the matter, Texas Tink? You don’t believe in fairy dust?”

“It’s magic dust and fairy wings, asshole. And what I believe in won’t amount to a hill of beans when I park this ride nose-first into a fuckin’ pine tree.”

“Been there. Done that,” Gray snarked. “It’s not so bad.”
