"Sal," Ash barked with a warning tone. "Backoff."
I didn't realize I'd stood and leaned menacingly over the bar. Micah still scowled at me but had backed away, pressing his cowardly spine against the shelves ofbottles.
"Calm yourself," Ash told me again, then to Micah, "Make those drinks, the usuals. Just keep them coming and we won't be anytrouble."
"Wow. Are you guys always such assholes to bartenders?" Deja shot me a disapproving look, her nostrilsflaring.
A tight sense of yearning squeezed in my chest. Even now she wasn't afraid to challenge me, to rival my hot temper with her own. I demolished just as many cities as I'd built just because the wrong fucker pissed me off. I made the fiercest warriors cry for their mothers and five-star generals piss themselves with my wrath, but she neverflinched.
No, this woman could order me to drop to my knees and kiss each of her toes. I would do it happily and wait for more. All she had to do wasask.
"No, just him," Ash said, clapping a hand down on my shoulder. "He needs us to keep him inline."
"Fuck you," Iretorted.
She was the only one who could keep me in line we all knew it. We'd been all out of sorts, unbalanced and volatile since she was taken from us. And now here she was, sitting so close to me I could wrap my arms around her and pull her to mychest.
But I kept my hands to myself and merely gazed at her gorgeous neck andcheekbones.
"So what have you learned?" Raum asked as our drinks finally arrived. "Have you cast any spellsyet?"
Sneaky fucker. He already knew. Damn his ability to see into the past and future. Although it did prove useful at times, he often kept information to himself for the sheer fact that hecould.
"I'm not really sure. I mean, I don't think so," she said, her voice full of uncertainty. "I mean, I broke a wine bottle by trying to make it move and I grew a basil plant. Oh and I can see people's auras but that's it sofar."
"That's already a lot for not even a full day," I said, my temper cooling. "You'll be quite powerful, maybe even a High Priestess before you knowit."
"Thanks," she smiled and my cock stiffened in my pants. Lord, it had been so long since I'd been buried insideher.
"It'll take me a while to really come to terms with all this." She wrapped her small hands around her drink. "As you all probably guessed from the way I acted at the party, I'm a recovering Christian. Although I never truly believed, no matter how much my adopted parents shoved it down my throat. That at least makes sensenow."
"Ex-Christians are our favorite," Ash said with a faint smile. "It's always a pleasure to bring them to ourside."
"And which side is that?" Dejachallenged.
"The side of truth and knowledge," Raum said, raising his drink in the air. "Where curiosity and research are encouraged, not blindfaith."
"The side that empowers women when the Christian God wants to enslave them," I added, my eyes trailing longingly over her curves. "And gave birth to the firstwitches."
"Have you figured it out yet, Deja?" Ash's eyes glowedexcitedly.
She hesitated beforespeaking.
"You said that gigantic goat head was your Lord. Is that true or were youjoking?"
"Completely true," Raum chuckled. "He likes to take on the form of freakishly large animals and see how long before humans can hunt Him down. He particularly likes black goats because of their association with himalready."
Deja sucked in a breath as she began connecting the dots in hermind.
"So your Lordis…"
"Lucifer," the three of us said inunison.
Her head swiveled slowly as she looked at all of us in turn. First me, then Ash, then finished onRaum.
"Which makes youall…"
The three of raised our glasses, saluting Him as He surely watched this reuniting moment betweenus.
