"This is my last one." Diana stroked the bottle affectionately. "So I performed a special, highly intricate blood spell to bind it."

Shit, that's not possible,Ash thought beside me.At least it shouldn't be.

She could be bluffing, I offered.Or just spouting crazy bullshit.

"What do you mean?" Seth asked.

"For nearly thirty years I've held onto this vial of blood." Diana clutched it tightly in her fist. "I never knew why I kept it, aside from holding onto my last piece of her in my grief. But whenever I meant to dispose of it, something told me to keep it. Somehow I knew deep down I would need it again for some great purpose. And now I finally know why."

"I'm sorry. I don't understand." Seth kept his head bowed.

"Of course you would never understand something as intricate as blood magic," she scoffed. "This," she petted the vial again, "was the blood of my daughter, Deidre. I took her blood and sealed it within the angel's kiss. Now it only has one target. The only other person who has fifty percent of this blood still running in her veins."

FUCK!Raum's voice in my head rattled my skull.Get Deja out of here! Get her as fucking far away as possible!

"He's right," Ash said, now using his mouth to speak and began shoving me down the boulder. "You need to run, now!"

"I'm not leaving you all here!" I hissed, grabbing onto his pant leg as I slid down the rocky surface but he was too strong.

Ash yanked my grip off and forcefully pushed me off the rock with inhuman strength. "That angel's kiss willonlyhit you!" he said, anger and fear in his cold eyes. "We're not at risk but you need to get the fuck out of here!"

She opened the vial!Raum yelled inside my head.Deja, run! Everyone throw up shields!

I scrambled off the rock to the ground and took off running, not aware of any direction but just moving. Adrenaline pumped through my body and made me feel superhuman. Blurred trees and brush zoomed past me. I tried to listen for the guys, for any clues, but all I could hear was my feet crushing leaves and my pulse pounding in my ears.

I ran until my lungs screamed and my legs gave out beneath me. Something tripped me and I found myself rolling down a hillside, rocks and fallen branches stabbing all over my body. A tree stopped me and I groaned from the impact. Still I sat up, listening intently.

Nothing but crickets. Darkness had settled in and I could barely make out dark shapes in the woods.

I raised my hand to cast a small fireball for light but a flash of brightness caught my eye and I turned to look.

Shit, no!

I scrambled to move, to avoid the glowing angel's kiss that zeroed in on me like a homing missile. But I was too slow.

Pain spread throughout my back and quickly stole my breath, my ability to move, and so much more. It was the same unimaginable pain I felt once before when my soul was ripped from my body. When I was ripped away from my lovers and my consciousness for a thousand years.

This time, no army of Hell would be coming to save me at the last minute.

I fell into nothingness.

RAUM

None of us knew what to do with ourselves, much less what to say.

Diana's fucking angel kiss tore through our defenses like paper and zoomed straight after Deja as she ran. We heard her cry out and the suddenness of her voice being cut off.

Then we couldn't find her.

We looked like worthless dogs chasing our tails, making the same circles over and over again while calling her name, looking for any sign.

"Her scent just disappears here." Nona's voice cracked as she shifted back to human to tell us. "It's like she vanished into thin air. Either that or my nose is broken."

Sal confirmed what she said. We all looked around the hillside where Deja had rolled down until she hit the tree trunk we were standing in front of. We waited, holding our breaths like she would pop out laughing at us with a gleeful look on her face.

"Come on, baby," I pleaded under my breath, refusing to let the panic rise. "Please tell me you're fucking with us."
