"Yeah?" G stepped closer into Jandro's face. "So your word is the law now, J? Even without any proof?"
"You don't have a shred of proof either, you dumb fuck!"
Big G pulled back his arm to swing. I stepped between him and Jandro but despite being right there, I still wasn't as fast as Shadow.
The silent assassin got behind Big G somehow, grabbing hold of his wrist to prevent him from slugging the vice president.
"Let go of me, freak!" G tried to wrench his arm away but Shadow was five steps ahead, holding strong while pulling him away from Jandro.
"I don't want to hurt you, Big G," Shadow said with an eerie calm. "But you're not thinking of the consequences if you lay a hand on Jandro."
Even without Shadow and Jandro being extra protective of each other, physical altercations were forbidden except during Fight Night. I had a feeling Jandro, Big G, and possibly Gunner would have some serious beef to settle at an upcoming fight.
"You're fucking lucky Shadow stopped you," I growled at Big G. "Attacking your vice president gets that patch ripped right off your cut in front of the whole club. Isthatwhat you're trying to do here? Get yourself kicked out?"
"No." Big G deflated and Shadow cautiously released his arm, as he looked like he was finally coming to his senses. "Sorry, guys. I'm just trying to do the right thing. I hate that there's a snake among us, you know? It just feels so obvious that it's Gunner—“
"Even if it is," I interrupted. "This is not the right way to go about it. Talk to us like a man, don't throw tantrums like a child when you don't get your way."
"You're right, Reap. Of course." He forced out a dry laugh. "I got two kids with a third on the way. I should know better. Maybe the stress of a new kid is getting to me, I don't know."
"Well, get it together," Jandro snapped. "We don't need the club falling apart because of accusations and rumors. Wewillfind who turned on us, and deal with him accordingly."
"In the meantime," I scratched the stubble on my jaw. "I think a slow cook will be a fitting punishment for you."
Big G opened his mouth to complain, then smartly closed it. "How long?" he asked in a small voice.
"The whole way home. You wanted to be a rabble rouser and bathe in the club's attention, now you'll get to."
Jandro stifled a chuckle as Big G hung his head.
"Thank you, President," came his humiliated reply.
"Think before you speak next time, chief." I slapped his shoulder and looked at my other two men. "We done here?"
We closed up the room and Big G hurried off toward the kitchen, likely to drink himself stupid in light of his punishment tomorrow.
"Go ahead and start getting packed," Jandro said to Shadow. "I'll meet you in the dining hall later."
With a curt nod, Shadow turned sharply down a corridor and disappeared without making a sound.
"So," Jandro said the moment we were alone. "You think it's G?"
I pulled out my cigarettes and handed one to him. "Nah." My inhale was sharp as I pulled my first drag. "He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's loyal."
"Same." Jandro blew out a long exhale. "He's been wanting captain of the guard for a while now. Probably saw it as an opportunity for Gun's post and a chance for a little time in the spotlight."
"Please," I scoffed. "He is nowhere near qualified to take captain. I'd give it to Shadow before him."
"Dude wants to feel important," Jandro shrugged. "We're on the road so much, Tessa pretty much raises their kids and runs the home alone. She doesn't need him."
"You think she's caught on to him messing around?" I asked. "Maybe he's trying to overcompensate his usefulness."
"I dunno, man," Jandro raised both hands, "I'm not in their business much. I try to stay out of it. All I know is he's been trying to move up the ranks."
"Then he needs to fucking act like it." I tossed my cigarette butt over the balcony and headed for my suite.
