“Oh shit,” someone said.

The person against the wall took off running. The rider kicked off and started speeding away. I just chuckled at the sheer amateur bullshit of this.

Sure, it was dark. But I wasn’t a weapons specialist for no goddamn reason.

I aimed at the rider first, lining my sight up with the center of his back. Dumbass didn’t even have enough sense to zig-zag.

The first shot hit him and he went tumbling off the bike, which crashed right after he did. Another machine to part out for Jandro.

The rider was likely dead so I went for the runner next, aiming at his legs. It took two shots but I had him flat on the ground, moaning in pain in seconds. He wasn’t going anywhere, so I checked on the rider first. Yep, dead as a doornail.

I didn’t recognize his face. Kicking his body over onto its stomach, his back patch read Razor Wire MC. These fuckers again, the same club that attacked us outside our home. Their emblem was a Jesus figure with barbed wire around his forehead instead of a crown of thorns. Perhaps ironically, my bullet hole landed right between Christ’s eyes.

Now to find out who the fuck was the sneaky weasel talking to him. I had a hunch I’d inadvertently found Tash’s bitch. At least I’d have some good news to bring to Reaper if so.

Without the use of his legs, the guy tried crawling away on his forearms, but obviously didn’t get very far.

“Aww, where you going?” I asked, delivering a kick to his ribs. “I just started having so much fun.”

“Ah, God! Please…”

“Please what?”

“Please, don’t tell them. I’ll do anything…”

“Little late for that, bucko. Now let me see who’s taking Razor Wire and Tash cock up the ass.”

I grabbed his pant leg and dragged him back around toward the front gate.

“Yo, Dallas,” I waved at the guard on duty. “Let me in.”

“Captain Gunner! Good to see you and glad you made it back.”

“Me, too, man. Me, too. Want to see who our traitor is?”

The sack of shit behind me moaned his protest as if his opinion mattered. “No, please! Just let me explain to Reaper…”

“Oh shit, is that what you’re dragging?”

“Yeah, shine your light over here.”

He clicked on a large flashlight and aimed where I stood just as I flipped the little bitch face up.

“You!” I cried in disbelief.

MARIPOSA

The clubhouse patio was livelier than the first party I attended. Something about a battle just outside your walls and coming to a near brush with death made a person that much more appreciative about celebrating life.

People started drinking before the steaks even hit the grill. Children chased each other around and even Hades joined in on the playing, while their parents sucked face and toasted to another night together.

The whole time, my stomach fluttered at the thought of seeing Jandro, what Reaper would say, and how his VP would respond. And once I got a spiked lemonade in me, I even dared to wonder where the night would end up.

“Relax, sugar.” Reaper slid an arm around me from behind, smacking a kiss on my cheek. “Don’t be nervous. Enjoy the party.”

“I’m trying.” My fingers laced with his around my hip. “I just don’t want to mess anything up.”
