“Fuckin' peachy,” I yelled back. “These fuckers seem a little shy, D. Why don't you flush 'em out?”

“Thought you'd never ask.”

He holstered one gun and grabbed one of the mini Molotovs on his belt. In one smooth motion, he lit the fuse and tossed the small bottle over his head toward a cluster of bushes. The tiny but powerful bomb exploded just before impact and rained fire down on the assholes who wanted to fuck with us for whatever reason.

It was beautiful.

They flushed out all right, but it wasn't screaming in terror like I'd hoped. A leader jumped out first, signaling to the others to come straight for us. They fanned out, the first wave holding long shields as they encircled us. I took a couple test shots at the shields. Yup, bullet proof.

“Hold your fire!” the leader yelled at me. He and everyone else wore helmets with dark visors obscuring their faces.

“How ‘bout you hold my dick, how does that sound?”

“T-Bone...” someone hissed behind me.

I turned to see the shielded assholes had almost completely surrounded the others. Through the gaps between shields, rifle barrels pointed inches away from Kyrie, Dyno, and Grudge.

Shit. There were a lot more of them than I realized.

“We don't want to hurt anyone,” the leader said. “We just want you to come with us and have a talk.”

I turned, pointing my weapon straight at him. “Yeah? Well you could have asked fucking nicely instead of throwing me off my bike. So, sorry, but we don't want to talk to you.”

I fired at him without warning, narrowly missing his head, but got him in the shoulder. He went down, hissing and clutching at it. I was pretty sure I heard a metallicplonkon impact, which most likely meant he was armored and the wound wasn't fatal.

That was disappointing. But whatever, fuck him.

A shot at my feet kicked up a small dust cloud, and I turned in the direction of the shooter, clicking my tongue.

“You need to work on your aim, soldier.” I returned fire with a single shot, hitting him in the leg. His cry of pain was musical as he went down.

“Stop shooting immediately!” another one of them yelled.

“I'll stop shooting when you fuck off, and let us be on our way!”

The shielded ones were closing in on the others, and I could barely see them over the crowd of black helmets. Dyno's arm went up as he released another Molotov, and that prompted them to scatter.

In their panic to escape the bomb, they turned their backs on us. Fucking amateurs. Grudge, Dyno, and I let loose, opening fire at their exposed backs. Normally we weren't the type to shoot in the back, but all the rules went out the window the moment these micro-dicks pulled up on us.

A few of them fell, both from our shots and the explosion that popped off, but the shitbags were well-trained and had a one-track mind. The rest recovered quickly, spinning back around to protect themselves with their shields. Dyno, Grudge, and I formed a tight circle now, guns pointing out while we protected Kyrie in the center of us.

“This is your last warning,” one of the shielded fucks bellowed. “If you do not come peacefully, we will take you by force.”

I let out a laugh that sounded maniacal even to my ears. “What gave you the impression that we would ever go peacefully?” I aimed my gun straight at his eyes through the small window in his shield. “I must not have made myself clear. Leave us alone or fucking die.”

Fear flashed through the eyes on the other side of that shield. I didn't know what these guys were expecting, but it sure as fuck wasn't my level of crazy.

Sure, we were outnumbered. They would probably succeed in capturing us. But they also seemed hellbent on not hurting us. Any other army would have gunned us down the moment Dyno's first bomb exploded. For whatever reason, these people badly wanted us alive.

And because they pissed me the fuck off, I wanted to make them regret that decision.

I fired at the coward with the scared eyes, the bullet cracking the protective glass in his little shield window, and then chaos erupted.

With a single command, the shields rushed, pressing in on us on all sides. I felt Kyrie's hands on my back, heard her small whimper of fear, and tried to make myself as broad as possible to protect her. The guys and I threw our elbows out, pushing and kicking against the shields crowding in, but it was no use. We were just banging ourselves up.

Dyno's arm lifted to throw another bomb, but someone grabbed his elbow and wrenched it from his hand. They threw it far away from everyone, the explosion quiet and distant compared to the others.

Another arm reached between shields through the gap between my and Grudge's shoulders and grabbed Kyrie's wrist.
