“Oh.” Kyrie’s frown only deepened as I saw the wheels turning in her head.

T-Bone caught on before I did. “Neither of us got with her. She only wanted Dyno.” He elbowed Kyrie playfully. “We’re notthatslutty.”

It worked. Her lips tilted in a half-smile. “So, how did that work out? I thought you all had to be together when you brought in…extra partners.”

“Mm!” I held up a hand to pause T-Bone before he started talking.Do you really want to know details?I underlinedreallyon my notepad. Some people got weirded out by colorful sexual history and regretted their curiosity, especially if they were less experienced.

“She can handle it, Grudge,” T-Bone said. “I told her about Bash and me.”

I shrugged and leaned back, ready to let him tell the story, which Kyrie did seem eager to hear.

“So Isaac’s mom, Lacey, and a few of her friends, came upon our clubhouse a few years back. They were just looking for fun, you know? Wanted to let loose and hook up with some bikers.” T-Bone took a sip of whiskey, settling into storyteller mode. “Well, Lacey took a liking to Dyno, and only him. He told her what was up, that we’re a package deal. Well, they kept going back and forth, because she wanted himbadbut wasn’t interested in Grudge or me.”

“That was her loss.” Kyrie tossed her hair over her shoulder and shot me a grin that nearly made my heart stop.

“Eh, the disinterest was mutual. Wasn’t it, Grudge?”

“Mm-hm.” I barely remembered what Lacey looked like, except for the fact that she was loud, couldn’t hold her drink, and her perfume was too strong.

“So we worked out a compromise. She could fuck Dyno as long as Grudge and I could play in the same room while it was happening.” T-Bone started laughing at the memory. “And let me tell you, little lady. I’ve had a lot of sex in my day, butthatwas fucking awkward.”

“Awkward why?” Kyrie’s face had darkened to a deep shade of red, tongue darting out to wet her lips. Fuck, was sheexcitedat the thought of T-Bone and me together?

“Because Dyno was fucking her across the room, trying to make us feel included, while she was trying to ignore the fact that we were there at all.” He chuckled and drank more whiskey. “It was just not a great time for anybody.”

That wasn’t even the worst part,I wrote on the notepad corner closest to Kyrie.

She read it and looked up at me with wide eyes. “What was the worst part?”

“When she and her friends were done partying and ready to move on, she tried to get Dyno to leave us and be with her.” T-Bone’s tone sobered. “Told him all kinds of bullshit like she saw us fucking other girls behind his back. Just trying to stir shit up and break us apart so she could take him home like a souvenir. Good thing D’s not a dumbass and told her to get fucked. By someone else. So they all left.”

“Hm.” I held up an index finger.

“Right,” T-Bone sighed. “That was the first time they left.”

“They came back?” Kyrie asked.

“Lacey did.” He nodded. “A year-and-a-half later, with a dark-haired baby strapped to her chest.”

“Oh no.”

“Yeah. Said he was Dyno’s and that he needed to be in his son’s life. AKA withher.Again, D’s not dumb. So he grabbed one of the kid’s teething toys and went to the hospital in Four Corners for a paternity test.” T-Bone shrugged and opened his palms toward Kyrie. “You can probably guess what the results were.”

“His,” she said softly.

“Yeah. So he tried talking to Lacey to work something out, because hedidwant to be there for the boy. Still does. But she wasn’t having any of it. She didn’t want Isaac raised near the clubhouse or by any of us, not even part-time. The only thing she wanted was for Dyno to leave us for good and be with her.”

D gave it serious thought, and we don’t blame him,I wrote down.He loves that boy, and after the fallout withhisdad, he wanted to do the right thing.

“What happened with Dyno’s dad?” Kyrie asked.

T-Bone rested a large hand on her shoulder. “As much as I love blabbering, that’s Dyno’s story to tell, not ours. But to sum up this story, he stayed with us and Lacey left again. Now Dyno sees Isaac whenever he can, but Lacey intentionally makes it difficult because her ego can’t handle that he chose us over her.”

I flipped to a fresh page.I think D regrets it sometimes. Not that he chose us, but that he’s not more present in Isaac’s life.

“That’s awful for Dyno, he just couldn’t win.” Kyrie leaned over the bar, her chin nearly touching her hands. “And poor Isaac is just caught in the middle.”

“Yeah, that’s the worst part,” T-Bone said. “When she couldn’t hook him the first time, she tried to use their son as leverage. Thank all the gods he didn’t fall for that shit.” He drained the rest of his whiskey and pushed the glass away. “We’re hoping in a few years, when Isaac’s older and more independent, he can spend some extended time with us, if he chooses.”
