“He does.”
“Hmm. Well, if your plans ever fall through, you know you’re welcome, right?”
“I do,” I tell her honestly, the side of my lip lifting upward. She’s so surprisingly refreshing. Any girls I’ve ever known would have pressed. They would have demanded to know where I was going and who I was with. But not Kinsey. She takes my words at face value and moves on. But I need to know why, and for some reason, I find myself unable to let it go.
“You aren’t curious where I’m going?”
“Of course I am.”
“Then why didn’t you ask?”
“Because if you wanted me to know, you would have told me.”
There it is. This girl is so fucking perfect it hurts.
Painfully.
After we finish eating dinner, Kinsey relaxes into the leather seat, letting her head fall back against the headrest, her eyes falling closed. I use the moment to look over her unashamedly. She’s such a petite little thing and looks so fragile. I know firsthand that is far from the truth, though. She’s stronger and tougher than most people I know. I wish her brothers would give her the space to live a little.
I wonder how I could help her with that without jeopardizing my relationship with Sawyer. After some things went down when Ivy returned to town, I don’t even want to imagine how he’d feel about me getting close to her sister.
“Do you know what kind of tattoo you want?” I blurt, the thought unable to leave my mind since she first asked me if I would be the one to tattoo her. Kinsey stays relaxed in the chair, her hair fanning out around her.
“I do. I want one single stem along the inside of my hip with some tiny flowers blooming from it. Super fine line and delicate.”
Fuck me.
I run my hand over my face and have to bite my lip to contain the primal groan that is fighting to break free, just as my burner phone goes off. Kinsey sits upright, looking around for the source of the noise, my phone clearly sitting on my desk, not making a sound.
Disappointment rushes through me, knowing I won’t be able to ignore it. I watch as she tilts her head to the side, then squints at me.
“Got a secret life we don’t know about there, big guy?”
If she only fuckin’ knew.
“I’m sorry to cut this short, sweetheart. But I’ve got some stuff to take care of.”
“You’re fine.” She waves at me nonchalantly as she stands from the chair. She stretches her arms above her head, the hem of her shirt lifting and revealing a section of bare skin along her midriff. My mouth salivates once again, wanting to lean forward and trace that strip of silky, smooth skin with my tongue. What the hell has come over me with this woman? “I’ve got a video date with Piper anyway. See you later?”
“Yeah, Kins. You’ll see me later.”
Kinsey leaves just as my phone stops ringing and immediately starts back up again. Once I hear the click of the back door that leads to the loft, I close my office door and open my top drawer, pulling out my burner phone.
“Yeah?”
“That’s no way to greet your prez, is it, Rogue?”
“It is when I was in the middle of something important.”
“Not like you to get your dick wet anywhere but the clubhouse.”
“It’s not like that.”
“Hmm. Doesn’t sound like it to me.”
“What do you need, Chaos?”
Because if he’s calling me, it’s not a want.
