Committee members move back into church, taking their seats and waiting for Chaos to speak. I know he has my back, but we don’t go into a fight without the votes of everyone on the committee. We’re a team, and we always fight as one.
“Rogue’s woman was taken,” Chaos states, and a growlworks its way up from my chest at the sound of that. He’s an asshole for calling her that after I just got done telling him she wasn’t. Chaos shoots me a look that conveys for me to shut the fuck up. “It’s safe to assume, based on the note and the hit, that it was the Iron Wolves. So we vote.”
I wait with nervous breath as each member goes around the table. Wrath readies himself to count the votes, but it’s not needed. Every single one of them votes in favor of us going in to retrieve Kinsey.
I release a deep, pent-up breath of relief. But now, we’re faced with gathering information on where the hell she is, and time is ticking at a rapid rate. Every moment she isn’t with me, she’s experiencing a fear so real I would give my life to keep her from it.
“What do we know?” Chaos demands, his voice laced with the urgency I feel.
Malice speaks up first. As our sergeant at arms, he handles security and internal and external threats. He may be completely unhinged, but that’s just one of the multifaceted pieces of him.
“Wrath and I were able to tail the asshole from the house using CCTV footage and the tracker I put on his bike. There’s no way it’s their compound, but looks like it’s one of their hideouts like the one we found the last bunch of bastards at a few weeks ago.”
“You mean where you skinned one of them alive?” Wrath interrupts.
“How many times do I have to tell you? I didn’t skin ’em!” he argues. “His blood just sprayed out of him with the force of a geyser. Scared the shit out of me.”
“Nothing scares you, liar,” Noose adds.
“This did, brother,” Malice responds with a shiver. “Wasabout to call my priest for an exorcism but then I thought, eh, it would be easier just to kill ’em, his soul be damned.”
“Good call, Malice, proud of you, little buddy,” Noose taunts and just as Malice stands and flicks out his knife, his head cocking to the side and his big obsidian pupils going wild, Chaos slams his fist down on the table.
“Shut the fuck up both of you! Sit your ass down, Mal! What else do we need to know?”
Thankful Chaos got this back under control before I slit someone’s throat, I perch my forearms on the heavy table and listen to Malice.
“It’s an abandoned garage on the outskirts of town. They’re staying right inside our boundaries. The garage is located in the old industrial park that teenagers fuck around at. It’s long since been forgotten, so it’s a pretty solid spot if you want to fly under the radar. CCTV is still solid for the majority of the property, but there’s a blacked-out section. So they got someone to fuck with it.”
“Wrath, what can you do?” Chaos asks, turning his eyes to him.
“I can get us in close, but then we’re going in blind. I don’t got their numbers or their security. I’ll cut what I can, but they could see us coming a mile away.”
“That gonna change anything, Prez?” Sin asks, beating me to the question. We don’t go in blind anywhere if we can help it. While we all understand the risks of every run, we never want casualties of our own brothers if they can be prevented.
“No.”
“Alright, Wrath, Malice, work your magic. Noose, you’re gonna lead this one.”
“What the fuck?” I spit, getting another stern look from Chaos.
“You’re not in the right headspace. You’ll ride in formation,Rogue, but you’re not road captain for this run. Trust us. We’ll get her back.”
I know Chaos and Sin are right, I can’t keep us all running tight and safe if my head is only focused on Kinsey’s safety, and I’m glad we have the unconventional setup of having two Road Captains, and that Noose and I get along so well. I trust him. All of them.
“Everyone have all the info they need?” We all nod our heads, and then it’s what our president thrives in . . . chaos.
Everyone moves quickly, Malice packing duffel bags of guns and ammo, passing them out like a peddler on a street corner while I jog up the stairs to the bedroom Chaos insists I keep here to make the phone call I’m fucking dreading.
He picks up on the first ring despite the late hour.
“What’s wrong?” he asks in a hushed tone. There’s rustling, and I can imagine he’s sneaking out of bed so he doesn’t wake up Ivy by talking.
“I need you to stay calm and trust that I’ve got it under control.”
“Fucking talk, Reid, or I’ll kill you next time I see you.”
“I’m at the clubhouse. Someone came for me a few hours ago. They hit Rogue and found Kinsey.”
