“I mean, I can hear the buzzing. It’s no big deal. I’m pretty sure every girl owns one. It’s really not a big deal,” I reassure her. She looked apprehensive. Maybe it’s because I heard the buzzing, but she seems more concerned than normal.

“Hey, I’m serious, Red. I’m not going to judge you for owning a toy. It’s no big deal, I promise. I’m not that guy,” I reiterated.

“No, it’s not that, it’s….” she trails off. Her eyes keep bouncing around the room but keep going back to the closet. What is she hiding? And it hits me.

“Why McKenna Clarke! Doth, thou have not one but many toys?” I mutter out with pretend shock.

“It’s not that simple,” she admitted, toying with her hair in a way that was almost cute.

“Then explain it. I’m pretty smart, you know,” I wagged my eyebrows.

“You’re an ass and you will one hundred percent make fun of me,” she swatted my arm.

“Okay, okay. How about this? Temporary truce? I won’t make fun of or judge you. Scout’s honor!” I held up two fingers on my hand just as a boy scout would.

“That doesn’t mean shit, you weren’t a boy scout,” she tossed back. She was right, I wasn’t. It wasn’t my thing in the slightest.

“Swear on your bottle of Glenlivet,” she stated with a knowing gleam in her eye. The little she-devil.

“Those are big words, Red. That was my grandfather’s bottle. You know how important it is to me,” I stated slowly.

“I do, which is why I’ll know you mean it if you swear on it,” she explained. She wasn’t wrong.

“Fine, I swear on my impeccably amazing grandfather’s bottle of Glenlivet,” I promised begrudgingly. She waited a beat, rolling her eyes before sitting with me on the bed.

“It’s all Janie’s fault,” she huffed out.

“Janie? The weird girl from your class with the frizzy hair?” I questioned. That girl had been an odd duck.

“First of all, she only had frizzy hair in middle school until she learned how to handle her curls. Not her fault. Second, yes. That’s the girl. She’s been my best friend for years, in case you forgot.” Kenna still had her finger pointed in my direction as she defended her friend. I did remember seeing those two run around quite a bit, but honestly, I spent more time keeping myself away from Kenna to notice.

“How is it her fault?” I pressed on.

“You remember a while back? When Craig was here?” I tried to not glare as she spoke. That idiot was a piece of work.

“I do,” I mumbled, my playful tone fading away at the memory of the douche bag who tried to manipulate Kenna. I may not be Kenna’s biggest fan, the overwhelming majority of the time, but no one deserved scum like that.

“Well, after he and I split, Janie thought it would be funny to send me a gift.” Her face was getting redder by the minute. I was beyond intrigued. What had her so embarrassed? Was it one of those crazy dildos? Or maybe a gag gift of some sort?

“Get on with it, Red,” I mutter. Her bed is soft. Not quite as nice as my mattress is, but the comforter is fluffy. Not oppressive like many comforters tended to be. I sound weird, I’m sure, but I don’t like being strangled in a cloud of fluff at night. But this thing is soft and a little fluffy, but not so much so that I’d worry about suffocation. I wonder where she got it.

“Ugh, fine. Janie bought me a box of sex toys,” she grumbles, covering her face with her hands.

“I’m sorry, what was that?” I spit out with a huge grin, my focus completely back on her now. “A box of dildos? Weirdo Janie bought you a box of dicks?”

I fell back against the bed, laughing. Full on belly laughs. The kind where you must clutch your stomach just to keep it somewhat together. Fuck, that’s priceless.

“No, not a box of dicks. A box of a hell of a lot more than just dicks,” she states, her eyes flitting over to the closet again.

“Wait, wait. That box that was delivered to my house. Please tell methatwas the box.” I’m giggling like a fucking idiot, but this is just too good. “Please tell me that giant, heavy box that you were so weird about was a box full of sexy fuckery.”

When she turned bright red and covered her face with her hands again, I knew I was right. It took a full three minutes for me to get my giggling under control. On the one hand, that was some funny ass shit that I wouldn’t soon be forgetting. On the other hand, however, it was hot as fuck.

With a deep breath, I turned back to her, keeping that latter thought in my mind.

“Show me.”
