“I’ve got you,” I grumbled quietly so that only she could hear me. “It’ll be over soon.” I tried to reassure her, knowing that it wouldn’t actually take anything away from this god awful moment.

“I trust you,” she whimpered as I thrust into her again. I needed to get this over and get it over with quickly. My thrusts grew faster as I sought my release, trying my damnedest to keep the image of a beautiful, and most importantly, willing, submissive under me instead of my new bride.

Thoughts invaded my mind, pushing me further. The need to control, to take, to plunder filled me, and I tried with all the willpower I possessed to rein it in. She whimpered with every thrust. I tuned out her sounds, just as I tuned out the men around us, thrusting faster until my orgasm was within reach. With two more thrusts, I found my climax, emptying myself into her. As soon as I had finished, I pulled myself off of her. I pulled her skirts down, covering her, before standing and walking away in search of something to clean myself with. There were towels on a small shelf against the wall, and I made quick work of wiping my seed away, cringing when I saw the blood tinging the towel.

It wasn’t until I heard the whispering around me, followed by the quiet sounds of whimpers, that I realized my faux pax. I had left her there under the scrutiny of these Elders. I turned towards her, pulling my pants back on and fastening them quickly before walking back to her trembling form. There was no blanket in the room, nothing to warm her or shield her from view. I quickly grabbed a towel from the stack on the shelf before I addressed the room.

“Now that we’re done, I will have a moment with my wife alone,” I stated decisively. Eden sat there, trying to cover herself with her dress, arms wrapped around her torso protectively.

“Son, this is a normal thing, and —” Father commented, but I was not about to have any of his excuses.

“It was not a request, Father,” I interrupted, my voice firm and commanding, leaving no room for question.

“Of course,” the Reverend interjected, halting any further question on the matter. For once, I was grateful for his support in the matter.

As the men exited the room slowly, I returned to my wife’s side. It wasn’t until the door had firmly shut behind them that I finally spoke to her.

“They’re gone,” I said, unsure of why I felt the need to announce that, but not knowing what else to say.

“May I have that towel?” she asked so quietly it was hard to hear her, even in the near silent room.

“What? Oh, yes,” I answered, looking down at the towel I still held in my hands. “Would you like some help cleaning up?”

“I’ll manage,” she answered with the smallest smile. She took the towel, turning her back to me as she wiped herself clean from the mess I had made between her thighs. “Oh,” she gasped quietly.

“Is everything alright?” I asked, worried at her tone.

“Everything is fine. I just didn’t expect…” she trailed off, turning to face me again, the towel in her hands tinged lightly with blood.

“Oh, um, yes,” I answered, clearing my throat awkwardly. “That is to be expected the first time.”

“Oh, I see,” she murmured quietly. We sat there in silence for a short while, the sounds of the wedding celebration carrying on above our heads.

“We should get to our guests soon,” I commented lamely.

“Yes, we should,” she agreed.

“But take all the time you need. I know that…” I trailed off, trying to find words that would comfort the poor thing. “I know that this was difficult,” I finished. She wouldn’t look at me, simply handing me the dirty towel without answering.

“Are you okay?” I asked her as she fussed with the skirt of her dress.

“We should get to our guests,” she finally spoke, her eyes lifting to look at me with a smile.

“I suppose we must,” I agreed hesitantly. I took her hand and led her out of the awful room and up the stairs to greet our guests.

Let the games begin.

CHAPTER2

MALACHI

I read Levi’s text message over and over, standing by my fireplace. They know I know.I tried to make sense of it all. The text message. The conversation I had overheard. Levi’s strange behavior since returning from that trip. Everything inside of me wanted to believe that Levi would never sell us out in such a way, but the words my father had spoken could not be ignored.

I hadn’t had the opportunity, try as I might, to speak with my brothers about this new development with Levi. In reality, all I had wanted to do at the reception was drag my eldest brother outside of the church and give him a piece of my mind. That had been literally impossible, however, as I had been dragged from group to group by my mother and my new in-laws to thank each of our guests for attending the wedding. Like they had any other choice in the matter. No one missed such an event in Zion. Ever.

I took a sip of my drink, groaning as the weight of the day settled over me like a lead boulder.

The wedding celebrations had concluded in a flurry of chaos. When we had arrived home, I had seen to it that my new bride was deposited safe in our bedroom, sleeping soundly. Try as I might, I couldn’t get Levi off my mind.
