“No, it’s my second. Oh shit,” Lauren grabbed one of the handles of the wheelchair and lifted her butt a bit.

“What’s wrong?” the nurse stopped pushing.

“I feel pressure. Ohhhh shit, I think she’s coming out.” Lauren’s face contorted with disgust as a gush of warm liquid poured from her center.

“Hold tight.” The nurse pushed her into the first available room, and Lauren wasted no time standing up. As soon as she pushed her leggings and panties down, her eyes bucked as her baby’s head began to crown. “Ohhhhhhhhhhh shit,” the pressure was so uncomfortable that Lauren pushed while standing.

As soon as the subtraction stopped, she waddled over to the bed. One more push, and the nurse was pulling the baby out. By the time Justice entered the room, the umbilical cord had been cut, and the nurse was cleaning the baby off.

“What the hell?” he rushed over to the baby. “Whose baby is that?” he looked over at Lauren as she prepared to push out the afterbirth.

“Justice, please don’t piss me off. I guess I was having back labor all day. As soon as I stood up, she started coming out.”

“Damn, I missed it?” Justice was truly disappointed. He watched the tiny human as the nurses worked on her, and he was sad he missed her birth, but he was glad she was finally there. He’d already gotten a vasectomy, and he wouldn’t be having any more kids. She was a special one for sure.

Walking over to Lauren, he kissed on the forehead. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Did you get a chance to talk to everyone?”

“I’m sure Wise made the calls. They’ll probably be here in a little bit. Did you decide to change her name while you were off ignoring me?”

“No jack ass,” Lauren chuckled. “Her name is still Sage.”

The nurse took her over and placed her in Lauren’s arms as her and Justice admired the newest addition to their family. No words had to be said. They were both thinking the same thing. She was perfect.

Trinity walked into Yaminah’s bedroom carrying a bouquet of roses. It had been one month since she was shot, and Yaminah still wasn’t fully recovered. The surgery that she had undergone left her sore and unable to do much for two weeks. Even after she was better physically, she was a mess mentally. Due to staples in her incision site and the risk of pain, she couldn’t run, play, and pick her children up like she wanted to. In addition to that, Kadafi was still healing as well. He was up and more active than her because he was in a better place mentally. Every time Yaminah thought about the fact that two children could have been left to grow up without their parents didn’t sit well with her.

But what could she do about it? People were literally living just to die. Death was the one thing that was promised to everyone and unfortunately, people didn’t get to choose when, where, or how unless they committed suicide. Thank God for her parents, siblings, and Kadafi’s family because they hadn’t missed a beat with the kids. Yaminah’s mother had taken them to the beach for the weekend, and she decided to spend her extra time sulking in bed. Yes, she should be grateful to be alive, but being shot had done a number on her more mentally than physically.

“Those are pretty. Thank you.” Yaminah closed out of her book and placed her Kindle on the bed.

“You still not ready to get up out of this room?”

“I do when the kids are here. I want things to get back to normal for them, but I’m still not one hundred percent. Whenever they’re not here, this is what I do.”

Trinity nodded. She had never been shot, so she couldn’t begin to imagine how Yaminah felt. She’d watched her nephew damn near spiral, but thank God, he’d gotten it together.

“Justice and Lauren’s ugly asses got married,” she announced making Yaminah frown.

“When? Didn’t she just have the baby?”

Trinity nodded. “She was released from the hospital yesterday, and they got married this morning. They only took Wise, Loyal, and Truce to be witnesses. No one else knew until after. Funny acting bastards,” she mumbled.

Yaminah shook her head, but she got it. “Planning a big wedding with a newborn would probably be a lot. And no need to have a long engagement just to be able to plan a pricy wedding. There isn’t anything wrong with the courthouse.”

“Of course it isn’t, but damn I would have liked to be there. I get it though. Sometimes, we just want things small, intimate, and for ourselves. They didn’t have to invite me or any of us.”

“I’m happy for them. I’ll wait for her to tell me. I’m not going to mention it. How have you been?”

With a sigh, Trinity sat back. “I think Cupid’s stupid ass finally got me. I was dating this guy. He’s so fine. He doesn’t have money like that, but he’s fine, and he does well for himself. He acted a little bit too passive about me, and I didn’t like that,” she admitted. “I ended up finding out he’s the single father of a one-year-old. That explained why he didn’t hit me up as often asI would have liked him to but in the past week, he’s gone ghost. I don’t know if he met someone else or not. It’s going to hurt to give that dick up, but he has me fucked up. Trinity doesn’t chase rich men. So, she damn sure isn’t chasing a broke one.”

“He’s broke?” Yaminah asked with furrowed brows.

“No, he’s not broke. He just isn’t the average man that I would go for. I’m sure that sounds shallow but don’t worry God is already humbling me. He’s not someone that I would have ever planned to take serious based on his income and the fact that he has a child, but now I’m really in my feelings because he ghosted me.”

“I know you’ve been on this earth long enough to know that while it’s smart to take some things into consideration nothing is black and white. There’s always an exception to the rule. As long as he’s not homeless and barely making ends meet, don’t worry about his money. Or the child. You’re great with kids.”

“None of that matters now. Did you miss the part where I said he ghosted me?”
