Grey stood awkwardly watching her. Usually, spending the night wouldn’t be an option because he had to get Shai’Ann.Now, he was dreading going home to an empty house, but he wasn’t sure if Trinity wanted him to stay. She could feel his eyes on her, but she didn’t speak until the fresh sheets were on the bed.
“What’s up? You gonna tell me what’s wrong?”
“You want to hear it?”
Trinity kissed her teeth. “Grey. I was brat, okay. And yes, the premise of our relationship was mostly sex, but don’t act like that please. Of course I want to hear it.” Trinity walked over to the mini fridge that was tucked in the corner of her room and removed two bottles of water.
She got in bed and pulled the sheet up to her waist while waiting patiently for him to tell her what she already knew. Grey sat beside her.
“The little girl that I raised for sixteen months isn’t mine.” He chuckled angrily. “I guess it’s my fault because I knew from day one that she might not be mine. I could have avoided all this by having her tested before we even left the hospital. Dumb ass nigga,” he shook his head.
“You’re not dumb, Grey. You’re a good person. That baby needed someone to love and care for her and you did that no questions asked all while knowing she might not be yours. That’s commendable. Don’t ever feel bad about that.”
“I don’t feel bad about that. I do feel like I could have saved myself some heartache. I can’t undo it though, so I just have to get through it. At the end of the day, I know I did the right thing by letting her father know.”
“And how is he?”
“He’s great actually. I couldn’t have asked for a better man to be her father. He didn’t take her right away. He eased into it and let her get to know him before taking her overnight, but he doesn’t want to traumatize her by taking her completely away from me. We’re sharing custody.” Grey chuckled. “He even sendsme picture mail. I guess when I explain the shit out loud, it could be worse. She’s with a responsible adult that cares about her and her well-being. And he’s going to allow me to help raise her. I should be happy about that.”
“Yes, you should. I love that for you. Whoever this woman is, she lucked up big time and seems to have great taste in men.”
“You think so?” he looked over at her.
“I know so,” Trinity smiled.
“I appreciate you.”
The two fell into a comfortable silence for a few minutes. When Grey looked over and began studying her, Trinity could feel her cheeks flushing.
“What are we doing, Trin?”
“What do you mean?” her mouth went dry.
“I mean, I told you at dinner that I was going off vibes. I wasn’t about to be chasing you if you didn’t even consider me an option for anything serious. You’ve never opened your mouth and told me that’s what you wanted but all the fits you throw when you feel like I’m not being attentive enough says otherwise. I know the dick is good, but it can’t be that good.”
All she could do was roll her eyes because she was the one that had let him see her hand. She had pretty much posted a billboard that said, hey Grey, I like you, and I feel like you don’t like me back. Of course, she could deny what he was saying, but there was no need.
“I didn’t plan on liking you, but I do. There, I said it. At this point in my life, things aren’t just about sex because you’re the only man I’m sleeping with. There isn’t anyone out there that I even want to get to know enough to give my body to. My black ass is tired. Just when I thought I was comfortable being alone forever you came along and made me realize that there are some good men left. It wasn’t that I particularly doubted you. I doubted anything with a penis.”
“And the fact that you have more money than me?”
Trinity sighed. “Grey, you are not broke. You have a nice vehicle, a gorgeous home, and you take very good care of yourself. As long as you don’t try to turn into a fake ass financial guru and start watching my pockets, I’m cool.”
“I don’t do any pocket watching,” he chuckled. “Between what Truce pays me, and the money that I make from side jobs, I do well for myself.”
“Well, there you have it.”
“I see I have my work cut out for me.”
“What do you mean?” she drew back.
“That right there. That attitude. I’m going to have to put a stop to that.”
Holding her hands up in surrender, Trinity shook her head. “Contrary to what you might think, I have no problem being checked by a real man. It’s actually quite the turn on.”
“Be prepared to be turned on then ‘cus all those tantrums and acting out, I ain’t going. We’re going to open our mouths and communicate like adults. Got it?”
“Yes sir.”
