“Sure thing.”

Grey left the bedroom and rather than getting dressed, Trinity began to pace. “There’s no way I’ve been pregnant for three months. I’ve been drinking, smoking hookah, weed, and liquor. Lord please no.” Placing her hands into a steeple, Trinity closed her eyes.

“I would look at it as a miracle baby. Imagine him or her surviving a plan B pill, hookah, weed, and tequila. Oh my God,” she groaned.

She had stopped drinking in an effort to detox herself, and she’d only smoked hookah once since taking the plan B pill. Weed she smoked damn near everyday but the other items had been cut out.

“A baby though?” she continued to pace and talk to herself. “How the hell? Man.”

Five minutes later, she was still pacing and hadn’t made a move to find anything to wear. “Okay what if I am pregnant? I have money. And Grey was crushed when he found out Shai’Ann wasn’t his. At least I know he’d be a good father.”

By the time he came back with the test she had thrown on an oversized white cardigan that she was going to wear as a dress and denim thigh high boots. The form fitting clothes she generally wore would never do with the slight bulge that she had. There was no way she was almost three months pregnant. Right?

“Here. I bought two boxes. Each box has two tests.”

“I can’t believe I’m about to do this. I’ve never been pregnant. I took a plan B pill. The times you pulled out, you sure you pulled out in time?”

“Just take the test, Trin. Sitting here speculating isn’t going to give us an answer. My pull out game is pretty strong. The one time I thought I slipped up, it turns out that I didn’t.”

Trinity didn’t want his mood to sour, so she took one of the boxes from him and went inside the bathroom. As soon as the test told her that she wasn’t pregnant, she was going to smoke a fat joint and stop being so dramatic about a little weight gain. As she pulled her panties down to pee, Trinity had already begun to envision how she was going to go harder in the gym. She didn’t have to be perfect, but she damn sure didn’t want to be walking around with a belly. She didn’t mind gaining weight anywhere else, but her stomach was a hell nah.

After placing the test on the sink, Trinity washed her hands. Grey opened the bathroom and came inside. “You can check the results. I’m about to go roll a joint, so I can smoke as soon as it says negative.”

Grey stuck his arm out to block her from leaving. “Trinity, stand in this bathroom and act like an adult,” he chuckled.

“I’m acting like an adult. I’ve never even had to take a pregnancy test in my life because my period has never been late. I doubt I all of a sudden start being fertile now at my big ass age.”

“Got any more reasons as to why you can’t be pregnant? Were you born a man?”

“I really dislike you,” she sighed and leaned against the wall. “Look at the damn test.”

She wasn’t sure why her stomach was in knots. She had accepted the fact years ago that she’d never have children. But then, she remembered all the times that Ireland spoke about not thinking she could have kids and getting the surprise of her life. Trinity’s entire body warmed, as Grey picked the test up.She swallowed hard as he stared at the test. Three seconds felt like three minutes. Trinity opened her mouth to tell him to quit stalling, but her mouth was uncomfortably dry.

Her lips parted, but no words came out. Grey lifted his head and peered into her eyes. “I guess that plan B didn’t work.”

Trinity couldn’t breathe as she snatched the test from his hand. She saw the lines, but she couldn’t process them. Staring at the test the same way Grey had, she felt like a fish out of water.

“Is it the worst thing in the world?” his words snapped her out of the daze that she was in. Trinity stared at him blankly not knowing what to say or how to feel. “We’re both financially secure, so our child will have a good life. You saw the kind of father I was with Shai’Ann. No matter what we may go through, I’d have my child forever. No questions asked.”

Trinity still couldn’t speak. He had told the truth. She didn’t really know him, but the fact remained that he had been a good father to Shai’Ann. He was still being a father figure to her even after finding out she wasn’t his. She’d prefer to raise the child as a couple, but she’d never stay with a man just for a child. If they didn’t work, they could co-parent. Trinity came to the conclusion that she’d thought she couldn’t have kids for so long, she convinced herself that it was okay because she didn’t want them anyway.

Now, she wasn’t sure if she should be happy or upset. Afraid or ecstatic. What if she miscarried? It was all too much. She needed a joint. Remembering that she was pregnant and couldn’t smoke, she began to cry. Her hormones were on another level. It was going to be hard to go be around her family and act normal, but she didn’t want to tell anyone just yet. Not until she went to the doctor and found out what was what.

Grey pulled her into his arms and let her get all the tears out. He knew that once she processed everything, she’d be okay.

Esco walked into the venue where Lauren and Justice’s celebration was being held. It was a kid free event. There were two long tables placed together and covered from one end to the other with pans of food. A DJ played a blend of old school and new school songs, and six bartenders from Ireland’s mobile bartending service were there serving alcohol. There were more than fifty people in attendance. Esco and Fatima had Wise’s blessing to date, but he couldn’t help but wonder how Justice and Loyal would feel about it. If Wise didn’t mind, they shouldn’t either, but he wouldn’t know until he spoke to them.

Lauren and Justice stood in the center of the room mingling with guests. Esco and Fatima approached, and Justice’s brows lifted. His eyes were a clue that he had been indulging. He looked genuinely happy, and Lauren was glowing.

“You got some mo’ beef, sis?” Justice asked.

Fatima rolled her eyes playfully. “Esco is my date.”

Justice trained his gaze on Esco. “What up, G? How long this being going on?”

“Not long. Definitely after the job wrapped.”

Justice bobbed his head. Fatima was grown, and Esco was good people. He would always be there if his sister needed him, but he had too many underage kids to be trying to police who Fatima dated. She had a good head on her shoulders, and he trusted her choices.
