DARIUS

This trip back to the Chi was mainly for business, but when my boy E told me about his homeboy Jaytee’s engagement party, I had to slide through. When my boy presented his business plan for The West Park lounge, not only did I think it was a brilliant idea, but I chose to invest in it as well. Normally, I would pop in for a few days, then bounce because my focus has been on expanding my company and investing in successful businesses.

When I first walked into the lounge, immediately, a feeling washed over me which put me on high alert. Chicago had changed so much since I left my senior year of high school; crime was at an all-time high, and nowadays these youngins liked to play with guns. Back in my hay day, we fought with our fists, but niggas today were too soft for all of that.

Ermias’s lounge was in a decent area in Hyde Park, but that didn’t mean anything. It didn’t matter if you were on the west side, east side, the gold coast downtown, or deep in the wild 100’s, crime was every damn where and I didn’t have time to get caught up in no mess. The feeling I felt didn’t give ‘watch my six’ type of vibes, it was hard to describe. Then, when I spotted the forever love of my life on the dance floor, it all made sense. Mysoul had connected with her the minute I walked into the lounge. I just hadn’t seen her yet.

I knew exactly who she was, even though the last time I saw her she was much younger. I stood off to the side as I watched KK slap Jaytee and on her way out of the lounge, she glanced at me briefly, but I knew she didn’t recognize me. Her slapping him right after the announcement about his engagement made it obvious that it was new news to her, it clearly didn’t sit well with her. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that they must’ve been dealing with each other. I didn’t know very much about Jaytee, but I did know that he wasn’t a one female type of dude.

KK not recognizing me wasn’t a surprise because even though I was big back in the day, I was what the females called a ‘big dawg’, twice the size I was back then. I still rocked a low fade full of waves, but my beard was what made me really look different.

Once KK came back into the lounge, I spotted her again, and as I admired her from afar, my heart felt like it was pounding in my chest. It had been damn near a decade since I last laid eyes on her and she still had this way of changing the beat of my heart and breath. Single as a dollar bill, I had been with plenty of females, but no one could ever make me feel for them the way that I felt for KK.

I took in all of KK’s sexiness as I moved to the beat with my hand on her waist. KK had always been a stunna, but now she had grown into a fuckin’ stallion. Her natural beauty enhanced over time, and her body filled out perfectly.

“I'm never gon' love like this again. You were made for me. Only for me.”

KK continued to sing as I whispered in her ear, “Nobody knows me like you do either, baby, but what I do know is, you betta be singing ‘bout me.”

I grabbed her hand and turned her around to face me, and when our eyes locked, I could’ve sworn my heart skipped a beat as my dick thumped in my pants.

“Big D is back!” I exclaimed with a grin as wide as I could stretch it, as she looked at me like she had seen a ghost.

“I know you damn lying to me! Darius!” KK all but screamed, giving me a tight hug.

The scent of her perfume engulfed me, damn near hypnotizing me.

“Come holla at me with yo fine ass.”

I was still holding her hand as I guided her over to the private section that I was sitting in. I didn’t even give her a chance to respond as we fought our way through the crowd. Once we made it to the section, we sat in the cut, and just stared at each other for a few minutes.

“I know this isn’t the best place to have this conversation, but I saw what happened and wanted to make sure you were straight. Plus, I owe you an apology, KK.”

“I’m good. Never stressing over no nigga. Fuck Jaysun, Jaytee, whatever the fuck he calls himself. That nigga is dead to me,” KK responded.

I could hear a lil bit of resistance in her tone. Even though she gave me a big ass, warm hug, I could feel that there was a bit of tension between us.

“Look, I take full responsibility for us losing contact, real talk. I’m not ’bout to hit you with any lame ass excuses, just know that it was on me and not ’bout you.”

“Really, cause after everything that we had been through down to the tattoos we got, I couldn’t understand why you did me like that. I thought it was supposed to always be you plus me. And you’re right, this isn’t the time or the place for this conversation.”

“I’ll be in town for a few days. I have some business to take care of. Can we link up so we can talk?”

Before KK could respond, I peeped Dymond in my peripheral; she was this lil dip I hooked up with the last time I was in town as she stepped into the section and headed my way. Dymond wasn’t my woman or no shit like that, but I did mention to her that I would be here tonight, so I’m not shocked to see her. The fact that she was wearing a unit on her face put me on guard instantly. She was way to pretty of a female to be walking around with a ugly ass mean mug.

I gave Dymond a glare to indicate that now wasn’t a good time, but she ignored me and still approached us anyway. KK had caught on and turned in the direction of Dymond as well.

“There you are, bae. I been looking all over for you and calling ya phone. Did you forget you told me to meet you here?”

“I told you that I was going to be here, never said come meet me here. You see I’m having a conversation; I’ll holla at you in a minute.” I dismissed, turned off and irritated.

“Hmmm.” Dymond smirked as she looked KK up and down. “I didn’t know y’all knew each other.”

“It wasn’t for you to know,” I rebutted.

“Welp, looks like the conversation is over. My number hasn’t changed, not sure if yours has. Call me when you have time.” KK stood up as she mugged Dymond, then she looked at me with disappointment mixed with sadness in her eyes and walked off.

“KK, hold up!” I hollered out, but she kept walking as she threw up the peace sign with her fingers. “Man, fuck! Yo ass messy as hell.” I jeered.
