After exchanging I love yous, Claudia hung up and looked over at me with a mixture of sadness and fear in her expression.
“Sayless, I’m already on it.” I rubbed her back, as I confirmed the first flight outta Vegas that would be leaving in a few hours.
I always paid extra when I booked my flights so any schedule changes would credit my account accordingly. While she wastalking to her mom, I was searching for flights, and the first flight I could get was for ten tonight. That gave us plenty of time to get back to the hotel, pack and get to the airport.
While Claudia kept trying to get Kimmie, I called the hotel and handled my bill, then tried to call Darius because Claudia had no luck reaching Kimmie.
KIMMIE
When we first made it to Georgia, I felt like a small-time celebrity for a quick minute. Flying in a private jet was an experience that I never thought I would have but thanks to Darius it’ll be something I would never forget.
It was still early morning when we landed and all the grown folk we’d been doing on the flight had us both tired and hungry. All morningPlanezby Jeremih and J. Cole was playing on repeat in my head. The take-off and landing normally made me nervous, but I must say, having my legs in the air while the turbulence from the plane descended to land was something I could get used to.
“I’m starving.” I exhaled once we got into Darius’s Maserati Folore MY25. It was matte black and red leather on the inside. “This your car?”
“Who else gon’ ride around withBig Dawgon they tag,” Darius snickered, and I shook my head.
“It’s sexy. Very impressive. Very demure.” I laughed and Darius laughed too.
All I remembered was Darius was on a freeway called I-75 south and the signs saying something about Macon.
“KK,” Darius called out. “Yo ass in a damn coma girl.” He chuckled.
I slowly opened my eyes and the scenic view in front of me reminded me that I was definitely in the south. It was so hot it looked like there was a haze in the air.
“I was gon’ stop at the Waffle House, but you wouldn’t get up.”
“My bad,” I laughed, “that was some of the best sleep I’d had in a long time.”
Darius glanced over at me briefly then back at the road. He was hitting the curves, bumps and turns like he was a native.
“There’s one not too far from my crib.”
“Where we going?” I asked looking out the window, noticing that the houses went from being modest to very expensive looking, yet they all had a southern vibe. We turned into a development, and the amount of land some of these houses sat on was overwhelmingly enormous. Some were street level, others below street level, like at the bottom of a hill, and others ducked off behind Georgia Pines. Some were even on top of hills, and those were the ones that really caught my eye.
We turned down a long road that was lined with pines and live oaks that led up to a red brick, massive house with a garage that was the size of a small house.
“Who stay here?”
“Could be us.”
“All this house for just you?”
“I work hard to maintain the lifestyle I feel I deserve to live.” Darius rebutted as he pulled up into the driveway to pull into the last garage space. The way his house was designed, the garages were on the side of the house at street level because the rest of the house was up a hill. Then there was a walkway that wrapped around to the front entrance. When he pulled into the garage,I now understood why he pulled into the space that was the furthest from the house.
From the outside it looked like there were three garage doors but inside was just one big ass garage space. He had enough space for two cars to park at the end he pulled into, and the rest of the garage was set up like a gym. I wasn’t surprised by this because Darius had always been a workout nut.
“I remember the small weight bench you had in your mom’s basement. This a big step up from that.” I joked, trying to be funny but I was really impressed.
“Damn sho is.” Darius laughed. “That was my first set of weights. I used to lay in my bed and dream of days like this. I just always thought they come by way of the NFL.”
“This just shows, what’s for you, will be for you. You was always destined to be great no matter which road you had to take.”
We had just made it to the door to go inside from the gym area and before he opened the door, he turned around and gave me a sincere look.
“You still believe in a nigga.” He beamed then gave me a kiss.
“I never stopped,” I rebutted, inhaling his scent as I followed him inside. “How many bedrooms do you have?”
