“Who? Please don’t say that damn Jaysun with his trifling ass.”
“Jaysun can kiss my ass. Darius, and I can’t figure out how he found out my address.”
“When he and I talked, all I confirmed was that he had your phone number right cause he thought he had the wrong number. I didn’t tell him your address though. Now my man though, he might’ve led him here but neither one of us told him your condo number.”
“I figured it was one of y’all.”
“I hope you’re not pissed. What happened? I need all the tea.”
“First, how ‘bout the night at the lounge I found out that Darius and your girl Dymond been fucking around. That’s yo homegirl, you didn’t know they were kicking it?”
“For one, that ain’t my homegirl. She more like an associate,” I chuckled. “And honestly, I’ve only seen Darius once and I didn’t even know his name or that he was your Darius. How did you find that out?”
“Cause she called herself confronting him when he and I was talking.”
“Saying what? Cause I’ll slap her ass if she got foxy.”
“Now you know I’m not worried ‘bout no female. And if she woulda crossed the line, I damn sho ain’t got a problem slapping me a bitch either.”
“I’m already knowing cause the way you smacked fire off Jaysun’s ass I damn near felt the back draft.”
We both started laughing. While Kimmie caught me up on what happened between her and Darius and why they had lost contact I took Bruno down to the lobby so that I could hand him over to his parents.
“Hold on for a minute, sis. Let me give this dog to his mom,” I said as Bruno’s mom walked up to me.
“Look at my baby! You did an amazing job as usual. Thanks again. I’ll be making another appointment soon.”
Bruno was a tall poodle that I groomed to look like a giraffe. I loved to see people’s reaction to how my clients looked after I groomed them. People in the lobby were stopping and staring cause he legit looked like a mini giraffe.
“Okay sis, I’m back. That’s sad what Darius went through. When I first saw him, I thought he was a professional ball player cause his ass is so big.”
“It is very sad, but to be honest, I’m afraid to open myself back up to him. It was supposed to be him plus me no matter what. I feel like if I let him back in, what’s going to be different. Like with your friend Dymond, that just showed me that he really ain’t changed for real and I’m not the same young-minded person I was back in the day.”
“I get that, but you gotta cut him some slack. From the sounds of it, whatever him and Dymond have or had going on couldn’t have been that serious from how he dissed her for you. And him losing contact, hell he human, sis. Like damn, it sounds like his whole life changed because of his injury. It’s heartbreaking to hear what he went through so I can only imagine how he felt going through it.”
“That’s true. Ion know, Claudia.”
“So let me ask you this. After all this time, when you saw him, how did it make you feel?”
“Shit, my mothafuckin’ heart dropped to my draws!” Kimmie laughed, causing me to laugh also. “I didn’t know what to say or how to feel but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t happy to see him.”
“Do you love him?” The line went silent. After a few minutes I wasn’t sure if Kimmie had hung up or not. “Hello, you still there?”
“I’m here. I never stopped loving him. But this is real life and as much as I would love for it to be a fairytale with a happily ever after, I’m not about to set myself up to get my feelings hurt again. Especially by the same person.”
“I understand that, but I think you should give yourself some time and really process everything. I’m talking about you processin’ and healin’ from Jaysun’s dumb ass and all that you went through with him, and if it’s possible try to give Darius some grace. A nigga gon only do what you allow him to do. If you feel like he’s not worth the risk, then walk away, but just make sure you have no regrets.”
“I don’t know what to think or feel.”
“If you feel in the slightest way that Darius is worth it, give yourself time, but don’t cut him off completely. Maybe allow him to show you that this time around will be different before just cancelling him.”
“Ion know…you’re right, though.” Kimmie sighed.
“Just give him some grace as well as yourself. And as far as Dymond fuck her. She can’t hold a damn candle next to you. Darius would be a damn fool to play with you for her. Hell, I’ll tell him that my damn self.”
“I promise I ain’t worried ‘bout no damn Dymond. Hell, she the least of my worries. Knowing him it’s probably plenty females in Georgia he fuck around with.”
“If that is something you are concerned about, talk to him about it. Do you think he will lie to you?”
