Our lips continuously moved. Exploring. Communicating. Wanting. My kiss turned needy. More fervent. Heat spread throughout my stomach, turning to a sizzling burn. A low moan escaped Ty. He gripped my bottom lip between his teeth.
Did the temperature jump to a thousand degrees? His kisses added fuel to the love I felt for him. How could someone be so good at this? Particularly someone who was in a hospital bed? Our kiss turned frenzied. I moved my other hand onto his chest. Could this bed be lowered? Would that hurt Ty?
A high-pitched alarm rang. I jerked back, my hands hovering over Ty. What just happened?
Ty’s face was dazed.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong? Did I hurt you?” I asked in rapid succession.
Seconds later, a nurse came running in. “Please move,” she barked.
I jumped out of the way, immediately missing Ty’s warmth. Had I hurt him? Was he as woozy as me? Did he understand how much I loved him? Wanted him?
My past boyfriends’ kisses left me slightly tingly afterward. Ty’s lips had eons on those wimpy feelings. A lifetime of those heart-pumping kisses would never be enough. I craved more.
The nurse adjusted the monitor strapped across his chest. “Your heart rate skyrocketed. How are you feeling?”
“Better than ever,” Ty said, as sweet as honey. Hopefully his light tone meant he wasn’t mad at me for laying that on him. Maybe my kisses had healing powers?
“You need rest, and if you can’t do that while visitors are in your room, I’ll have to kick them out,” she warned.
Ty’s gaze found mine. “I promise I’m fine.”
“I’ll come check on you in a little while.” As she exited, she glared at me. We hadn’t fooled her. Come on! I was thefiancée. He was awake. What did she expect?
I stayed in the corner of the room long after the nurse left.
“What are you doing over there?” Ty asked.
“Letting you rest.”
He rolled his eyes, beckoning me back to his side. “That. That was. . .”
I moved back to the chair I’d sat in. This time, I kept my hands and lips to myself. “Yeah.” I sighed contentedly through a smile. The. Best. Kiss. Ever. “I hope you’re not mad I did that.”
“Definitely not mad.” He smiled. “Not to put a damper on our moment, but can you wait to do that again until I can properly kiss you back?”
“That wasn’t a proper kiss?!” My jaw went slack. My heart thrummed. “As long as you’re prepared to resuscitate me afterward.”
He chuckled. “Gladly.”
“Um.” I bit my lip. “How long do you think it’ll be?” Kissing Ty was my number one priority from here on out.
“Not sure. A few weeks, maybe?”
My shoulders slumped. “Seriously?” A few weeks?! How would I wait that long? It was like being offered a spoonful of the best-tasting dessert of your life, but being told that’s all you get. A spoonful.
But as I took in Ty, his eyes held a weariness that hadn’t been there a month ago. As his best friend first, and new girlfriend second, I could do that for him.
Even though it tested my patience to an insane level.
CHAPTER 30
“Do you want M&M’s in your popcorn?” I called out to Ty, who lounged on his sectional. The crew worked overtime to finish his kitchen. We only had a few days left before his house was officially done. Of course, I took over the hallway bathroom and brought in an air mattress to sleep on in one of the guest bedrooms. I wouldn’t say I moved in, but close enough.
“Yes, and will you please bring me some water as well?” Ty requested.
“You got it.” I found a tray, placing our snacks and drinks on them. I joined Ty on the couch.
